Hey man I appreciate the info regardless! I really do like the look of it. I think it’s from 2013 and it says made in China so I’m guessing it’s in the lower end of the lineup. I’ll do a serial lookup on it.That looks gorgeous! Unfortunately I know a lot about a few models. I'm a huge fan of the Proline models and have very little experience of the G5xxx models, except that everyone I know who has bought one loves it. I have a G6120SSLVO - a 2014 Setzer 6120 in vintage lacquer which is an outstanding guitar. I have played many gigs on a Gretsch Setzer 6120. These days I love my '59 and '53 VS DuoJets which are similarly awesome, especially the '53 which I have put T-Armond shaped Filter'tron Classics in. It is one of the most versatile guitars I have ever owned. It twangs, can rock out, can do blues, jazz and country to alternative rock. Beautiful sounding guitar which is a joy to play.
Sorry I can't help more!
Hamish has got Cat class and he's got Cat stylea 2014 Setzer 6120 in vintage lacquer which is an outstanding guitar.
Gonna print this out and show the wife thanks!
That’s good to hear. It sounds like $400 is totally reasonable if it feels nice and actually looks as nice as it does.I've been pretty impressed with the whole Electromatic line of Gretsches. They are well made, fret-work has been very good on the few I've played. I think these were like $699 new. That Gold Top has been discontinued. The weakest point for me is the pickups, on the lower end models they're not really true Filtertrons but just hum buckers dressed up as trons. If it's really in good condition, it's at least worth a look.
Might be a great platform to mod with some real 'trons.
Good to hear. The mini bucker route is interesting. Lots to think about. Wish the holidays weren’t so friggin expensive it’s hard to justify especially with my baritone tele build in the worksI had one of these with a bigsby and with a decent setup it played really well and felt nice but the pickups were terrible. I modded mine with pickup rings and mini humbuckers. After that it punched well above it's weight but was more in the Gibson camp than gretsch.
Yah but it's a discontinued color......at a great price......and and, well it's a Gold Top? Nuff said......Good to hear. The mini bucker route is interesting. Lots to think about. Wish the holidays weren’t so friggin expensive it’s hard to justify especially with my baritone tele build in the works
