These look great!

...if only they didn't have the white washers...

I would absolutely never be able to use that with those switches so close together. It's insane how much you packed in there, though

does the side pot pop out for twiddling?
I can selectively stomp the switches with either the tip or the edges of my shoe, but yes, it takes good aim :) I use it more as a desktop unit or as a Walkman, with headphones, and it's not an issue in this case. I'm planning to sell the brain separately (and more affordably) so people can integrate it in whatever size or style of enclosure they prefer. For instance, I'm thinking of repurposing my Native Instruments Rig Kontrol 3 enclosure to use with a brain, just for fun.

As for the side knob, no, it doesn't pop out, so it's a bit awkward to turn (it does stick out a bit). But I used the same knob style as the ones on top, and with the side pot recessed, that's all the knob I could get outside the box. If only it would stick out another 3mm or so...

A taller knob would improve the ergonomics at the cost of looks. An easy thing an end user could swap, though. Hmm, I might even include one.

What are you doing with an army of alien Muppet-Benders?

I'll see if I can dig up some pics of my M&M-tin build(s).

sandwich game is strong here
You betcha!

I'd love to have one of those sammy tins and build the ELS Hangover Cure (Way Huge Fat Sandwich) into it.

I've got a collection of dubiously thin tins to make into pedals; I think a relay-bypass with soft-touch switch is the way to go for these Tin-Machine things.

What? You wanted rye, whole-wheat or multi-grain?

Great, now I have enclosure envy🤔 I built one of the first of many, many distortions, way back in my teens, in a shoe polish tin. You know, the round ones, with a butterfly opener on the side. Those were the days...

Anyhoo, you made me dig out a pic of the first Shockman-in-a-box. It went to a childhood friend who first put a guitar in my hands. It's a historic tin of Altoids, too. I had to bum it off Mr. GML, who was keeping some random computer screws in it.

Still looking for a 1590A boost I built with side-knobs, will put up a pic when I find it;
The only other side-knob thing I remember having is Small Bear's Bear Boost Plus, which I haven't built yet, but here's SB-Steve's:

I'll be relocating the power jack to the same as the input/output jacks when I do get around to my BB+ build.

An aside, here's some of those tins I told y'all 'bout:

I had a blue and red M&M tin, too. the Orange one is mine, the others I gave away. I build Emerson Custom Em-drives into them, orange was the prototype which I'm now revamping to make into a BASS Ehm-drive — which is why there's no knob-pupils nor footswitch in it.
I have a several more different tins, but these are what were easily accessible to throw together for the pic. The tin Union Jack purse fits a 1590TRPC inside it — it'll get some BAIAB circuit in it. TV and Camera were found at G.O.D. in HK; some cookie tins, somewhere there's a Mars tin to match the Snickers; couple more of the Star Wars tins.

One of my favourites may not have survived the move back to Canada, haven't come across it yet: a hard-candy tin where the top was stamped into the shape of various berries — very tactile but with just enough flat spots that I could've put an Escobedo Too Many Knobs into it with the knobs all sticking out at odd angles. I really liked that tin, hope I can find it or one like it again.

Another fave is the Flapper tin, I just love art-deco and the sides of the tin have some line-art in that vein. The London Cab was procured because I haven't found a metal die-cast cab yet that's the right size.

My plan is to have the tins hooked up to my Super8 or other channel-looper so that I'm not stomping on them — I've destroyed a few tins already, but wasn't using the soft-touch relays yet.

Sorry for the derail, back to Side KNOBs...

I've got a few builds that are to have a single side-knob for toe-ing in expression... Need to source some robust pots to handle the side load as my 13s don't float like a butterfly, but sting like a 2,000lb Bee.

this is my favorite thread this week. side knobs and tins are definitely going to be incorporated into future builds. I love the tin idea. I have dozens of circuits without enclosures. i will be keeping my eyes open for cheap tins now.
