Skeptican Buffer, 29 Pedals and actual copyright...

Has anyone directly compared the skeptical to the C buffer(with the tone toggles off)? Or another buffer like the klon or even Tube screamer? When I see positive reviews, it usually seems like people love what the Euna did compared to No Buffer. But I’m genuinely curious if it’s better or different sounding.

I’ve had in mind for a while to build a skeptical and a Cornish buffer in the same box to toggle between them, just to get a good comparison. But I haven’t because I assume they’d be quite similar sounding.

If a buffer is actually good, it'll sound the same as every other good buffer. You might find you prefer a certain input impedance, but there's not much in it in most situations beyond 1M. It's worth noting that the "sparkle" of the SHO is actually from it not being a good buffer and introducing a little harmonic distortion, even at unity.

I believe what people like about it are the toggle switches and how they affect the EQ. I built one and I also liked it, but not enough to replace another pedal on my board with it. If it was integrated with a compressor pedal I would have likely kept it

Ya know, Jesse Honig has a valid beef if you use his brand name in your Reverb ad. Try selling an Earthquaker Life Pedal clone on Reverb using the the word "Earthquaker" in your ad and see what happens. Brand name owners have every right to protect their brand and reputation. I have seen some pretty shitty builds on these forums (not very often, but it does happen) and in Reverb ads. No one would want their brand name associated with those pedals. Reverb has history of siding with brand and copyright holders, so don't expect to prevail if a brand owner has your ad pulled.

I went thru this with him, had my ad flagged, and reverb removed the "Euna" name from my title but kept it in the ad description. I wrote something along the lines of "this is a circuit inspired by the 29 pedals etc etc."

It's not so much that he doesn't have a right to object to things like this, it's that he himself doesn't know the rules

There is no violation of copyright or trade mark law. He doesn't even have any of his brand names registered as trademarks. I pressed him about quality of components and design philosophy and he replied incorrectly and in a rant like fashion - not a perspective I would take as fact. I go over this in a thread I made about it a few months ago.

The OP rightly asked for another perspective on the matter to gather more information, which you should always do when challenged
 
My point of view: The discussion should be with Reverb. It is their platform and their rules.

"Reverb takes intellectual property infringement very seriously. We comply with intellectual property laws and industry best practices in order to maintain the integrity of our marketplace."

This thread was a fun read! I will say when the EUNA came out I was most intrigued by the power supply. I can see the benefit of having a pedal that runs the same off the odd 12V, 18V, or even AC on a pedal power supply, but pitching it for scenarios where everything craps out but the one 14.6V AC wall wart for your lava lamp that you can use to keep your all important buffer on before the creative juice dries up is crazy! All that circuitry to regulate shitty power as if everyone will run their $270 pedal on switch mode laptop bricks is something else…

And the form factor is ridiculous.

I was digging through my pedals last week and came across one of these and noticed a minor detail I think I overlooked in the past...

After all this hype about being able to power the pedal from any supply in the world, dark alleys, huge arenas, the desert, a pirate ship, anywhere™ ...

You can't power it from a 9V battery. The single most common and worldwide accepted source of power for guitar effects pedals. They're literally everywhere.... but not here.

Sure, we're trying to move away from e-waste, but considering the whole "show must go on" vibe, what the heck?
