Small Bear shutting down

It’ll be mostly transistors, although there are a few odds and ends I typically get from the as well.
I took them out of my cart. Ive been stocking up (from SB) and have many on hand. I’ll save them for everyone else. I forgot I had a wishlist saved for the pets I need for the 1776 Effects Multiplex Tape Echo. Also, other than SB, where can you find photocouplers?

I've been using SB for a while now, great customer service and inventory so it will be sad to see them go. But seriously, now I need to find an alternative knob source. SB had all those synth knobs and some exclusives like the colored amp cupcakes with brass inserts. I'm hoping I don't fall into a dark age of MXR and Boss knob only builds!

We need to group buy a 3d printer and hire someone to fill out orders.

I too was gonna stock up on transistors but I had to remind myself I already have about 600 germaniums 🥵

Still thinking of clearing them out of my favorite knob...

I'll probably place a large order to get the odd stuff I need or foresee needing eventually, maybe some germanium stuff.

I think they might also do blowouts on items that aren't selling much, like maybe their old stock caps, silicon stuff, etc.

Maybe some of the other sites will start carrying more of the stuff like small bear....there is obviously a market for it. Someone is bound to see this as an opportunity to pick up where Steve is leaving off.

You definitely still can. They're gonna be open through the end of the year
Oh I know, I just meant with the cool knobs. I certainly didn’t plan on spending the full $200 I got this week on parts, but here we are 🙃

I was hoping to get some germaniums, but I couldn’t pull the cost. I got all of the knobs that I needed for different projects tho, as well as a good amount of enclosures and other fun stuff— just none of the passives or semis that I need 😅

This raises the question though— are there any other good suppliers of light plates? I make my own when possible and just file off the flange on the enclosure bottom, but some of them really need that groove for the flange to sit in, which isn’t really a diy-able thing

Just placed my pile of transistors order. I don’t know what happened but some how I fat fingered the “check” button instead of PayPal. Hopefully they let me pay via PayPal, sent a email. Had a Red Forman moment… Dumb Ass…

Damn, I'd grab odds and ends from SB even tho the shipping costs to OZ was terrible. Not sure where I'm gonna grab Fairchild PF5102 from now :( . Hopefully someone can point me elsewhere.

CRAP! I was just about to place an order but unable to do so at the moment and now this.

Hope I can get a few dregs from my planned order...

I just received a bunch of knobs from him yesterday - took a month to get to Australia but worth it. I like those aluminium Skreddy style knobs. I don't use them often because $$ but they're good for a special pedal. I have no idea where I would get except for Small Bear.

Does anyone know why it's called Small Bear? Is Steve particularly bear-like?

What kind of transistors can you recommend to get there? I am interested in germaniums mostly since I don't have any, but I'm open to other options (jfet, mosfet, npn, pnp, etc.)

I have a cart going but my heart is not in it. I feel like I have enough transistors to last me forever and while sentimentality is pushing and tugging at my heart strings, i think anything else I'll ever need can come from Tayda.

I may grab some of my beloved 2N169 units because you seriously can't get them anywhere else and some more old Amperex silicons because those are scarce as well. My proposed $200 order quickly fell to $100 and I think it'll stay there.
I sort of ended up in the same place. Having a stash is great and all, but if something isn't available, I can make different choices. Like if I buy up the knobs I like, then I use them all, then what?
