SMD soldering. Am I doing this right?

I do not have an SMD heat gun. I used a regular soldering iron set at 380c. Applied some flux to the 3 pads. And dabbed at little amount of hot lead on the G pad on the PCB. The then moved the mmbfj201 while heating up the lead on the G pad. After positioning it properly i then applied some lead on the S and D terminals.

is there anything wrong with this process? I’m about to do this on the rest of smd+Sot23 adapters I got.
