I’ve been using a keeley plus for forever but i have to say the optical compressor is definitely different and I like it a lot. It even has a overdrive to it.

Any tips on uses and genre?

I like to use a compressor to make up for my sloppy legato technique.

Tips: Not all control combinations do good things. There is a lot of interaction between the top three knobs. A good starting point for ATTACK & RELEASE is around 10:00. You may find the release can be sped up by moving the LDR back from the LED a bit. Too many photons slows down the LDR.

Did I miss the note about a green LED? I used White

I've tried all different color LEDs. The most important thing is the brightness. We don't want it to be too bright. I started with diffuse white and ended up with a normal brightness diffuse green LED. If the release is ok, then you're good. If the release "breathes," then you might want a dimmer LED or move the LDR away from the LED.
