That’s a better way to do it than how I just clip off or bend the ends.

why bother?

Because it takes 20 seconds and they do get in the way on tight builds like 1590A where there is no room (usually) for a battery anyways. Also the chance of soldering to the wrong tab is reduced to just about 0 because of the slanted side locating the sleeve tab.

I snip them off with malice in my heart, so the option of ripping them out appeals to me.

I clip them off. That gives me the additional security of one extra clip on the cable plug but it's still out of the way for wiring,

I'll clip them, but only if they are in the way. I didn't even realize they were removable!
