Upcoming EQD / Boris collaboration pedal

I’m not too excited about this pedal…I can build my own version (better too?). I will say that all of the teasing has lead me into a big Boris kick…
Yeah, between this and the Boss FZ-1W, I‘m more excited about the FZ-1W. That one sounds super sweet and likely will be a bit hard to copy.

A - so apparently the circuit’s been changed to negative ground, and now I’m thinking/wondering if it can be built on a Muffin board with the right BoM

B - I respect how much time and effort went into tweaking the circuit to get it right, but it sounds like they could have saved a few months of shipping prototypes around the world if they’d just asked for Wata’s original to trace a *bit* sooner.

That said, I’d *love* it if part of my job was to spend a year tweaking a Big Muff for a famous musician’s signature pedal. I ain’t that lucky.

I just built an Elk Sustainar on the Muffin pcb a few weeks ago. It took some tweaking, but it’s pretty good.

Yep, negative ground / NPN transistors (no charge pump or anything like that). It could be built on the Muffin PCB, the biggest catch is that the tone control is reversed.

So what transistors are used?

Tried some A733’s but the ones I got don’t work for shit (fortunately they were cheap). Switched them out for some BC108C’s I had laying around. Those definitely work. Pretty gnarly too.

Just curious about different trannies.

I just saw this video of a DS-1 being used while comparing the Hizumatis vs Triangle.
(I like the pedal demos in this channel in general)

So is this thing just a 1:1 Elk Sustainar with the same parts values as the schematic on Kit Rae's big muff page?

Cool. When it was announced I figured the difference was mostly just more power filtering and the tone control being wired backwards, but I watched that teaser and froze the video to see the schematic Jamie drew and it looked like q1 was missing the 470pf cap in the first transistor section at least.

I built the Elk based on the Kit Rae schematic and it wasn’t that good. Too much bass, and it didn’t sound quite right. I ended up doubling the tone cap, which got me much closer. I think the changes made by EQD were to accommodate for values drifting over time…
