General rule of thumb:
You can always replace a polarized cap with a bipolar, but you can't always replace a bipolar cap with a polarized.
Wima makes some great little 1uF poly film caps with a similar form factor and lead spacing to a full-sized electrolytic. I'll generally replace any 1uF electrolytics in the signal path with one of those...unless it's something with an ungodly number of the things, like the EQD bit commander.
