Wha would be the harm in using a B25k pot in the Tommy III?

It'll work. 0 and 10 will be the same it's just how you get from point to point that differs. B tapers bunch up at the extremes which might matter to you, might not. Its a response issue more than one of functionality.

I've started using C taper for gain pots. A for volume. B for tone.
 
For the Tommy, you could omit R5 and use an A10K pot for volume, like on earlier versions of the Timmy

(long story short, A10K was the original value but Paul C didn’t like that unity volume was at around 2’ o clock.

He tried a B10K pot but that put unity Volume around 9’ o clock.

So he switched to an A25K pot with an 18K resistor in parallel, which essentially makes it a 10K pot but with unity volume right at noon.

in all three cases, minimum volume and maximum volume are the same, it just affects how quickly the volume increases.)
