What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Another vote for the Square Wave, though, all the suggestions so far are great — I'd lean to the FY-2 if you've already played around with the Square Wave before. Always fun to have something new.

I think I might still have some Finger Print boards on hand. If so, I'll build one up and see if I like it enough to put in one of these

The Square Wave is KILLER. Criminally underrated. If you do it make sure to put a feedback cap across the first transistor to quell the noise - I’m on my phone otherwise I’d link to details but it solves the noise issue without impacting how brutal it sounds

A little redundancy, but I've got a ton of BJTs taking up space

First sign of life from the reverb on this ARP 2600. Sounds awesome.

4 of the seven LM301s on this board were DOA. Trying to decide if I should replace the other three while I’m in there. The hinged standoffs are a really nice touch.
I'd worked on a few Arp 2600s when I was the synth tech at music shops in the UP and Greensboro areas. Even got my hands on Arp hex-pickup. Cool old synth.

Man. That's odd on it's own. Have you peaked at the PSU?
At that age, a recap is overdue.
3x opamps do just DOA. They were taken out back by something.

I did recap the power supply right away. All the original caps were still good as far as I could tell.

I had assumed the same thing about opamps generally being pretty reliable. Apparently the LM301s are a really common failure point on these ARP synths though. To the point where some of the service folks recommend just replacing them all.

They are over 50 years old, so I guess they worked reliably for quite a while. This unit did a lot of gigging in the 70s and doesn’t appear to have any replacement parts so I’m impressed it’s as functional as it is.

I hadn’t heard of the hex pickup/ avatar - that sounds wild. Did you ever set it up?
Yes, I did. I had on my Strat for decades. I wired it with the same connector to fit the older Roland Guitar-MIDI Interface. But after they changed the connector style, I never bothered to change it and sold it last year for a few hundred zorkmids.

I hid the driver board under the faceplate and drilled out a hole for the 10-pin video connector jack to connect to the old Roland interface. The 10-pin cable carried the six pickup lines, ground and a +9V supply line.

Squeezed yet another gadget in my cramped G&L control cavity yesterday. Let's see what's there so far... Bass/treble boost (the new guy with DIP switches), filter preamp, one-knob compressor, headphone amp/aux in, battery indicator. Oh look, there's still a bit of room on the left side. Hmm...

@JTEX Do you have any videos of the in action using all of those mods?
I've been procrastinating pretty hard about doing an onboard compressor video, since hardly anyone seems to be interested in the idea. Also, it's pretty hard to understand what a transparent compressor does if you're not the one playing it (you kind of have to experience how it responds to your playing). I do have a demo of my filter preamp:
