What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

No photos but I'm making progress on a board for the blue channel of the korg harmonic distortion. Was over the moon to get any sound of it at all when I plugged it in, now just to figure out why it's squealing. Otherwise practically there. First minute and change is just slowly increasing gain, then fiddling with the tone. Audio:

That looks tedious a f.
Actually the only hard part is opening each box of the tape reel without sending them flying. Once I had a groove it went fast. I'm done searching for pricey through hole and paying 8 -10 bucks for a matched set of smd sucks when I have so many already. I don't recommend though, only for the most bonehead diy enthusiast 🤦

Diy at its finest...or cheapest😤 hand sorted and matched quads of smd 5457s for a special project. One set with a spread of .01v and the other of .008v.
Definitely DIY at its finest! Nicely done.

If ya haven't got the nearly 200 zorkmids for a Peak Atlas DCA75 and another 50 bux for the adapter for testing SOT23 parts, that rig is worth the tedium.

I built this jfet tester back in 2018. It's always served me well. I would like a dca75 and adapter but I can't justify it for as little as I match jfets. Now if I had a production line of phasers or pedals that needed matching then absolutely. It was oddly satisfying to slow down and really get caught up in the build process and do some old school diy and not just pay to have it done for me.

That's been a big struggle for me too.. I'm working towards going full sci-fi these days but part of me misses showing up with a tiny briefcase that just had:
Tuner>808>Rat>DL4

I imagine this could be a life-long internal conflict.

Steve Howe of "Yes"
I knew Gollum played, but who knew he was subbing in for Howe in Yes?

I was just putting together a cart for those parts today, and realized the regulators were smd! It’ll be my first too.
I always encourage anyone to give SMD a try. It's not nearly as hard as many people may think. On my 1st ever SMD attempt, I passed a hiring test at Harris corporation, way back when. It did help a lot that the walls of the exam room were covered in posters showing what an SMD solder joint is supposed to look like.

The most important factors are a small, really fine-tipped iron, and skinny solder wire. The solder wire should definitely not be thicker/fatter than the things you're trying to solder.
