What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Replaced two sets of pickups today on some cheap guitars. Added Bootstrap Oatmeal Stout pickups on a Squier strat, and Bootstrap Squeaky Clean P90 pickups on a CNZ Audio mini jazzmaster.

This was my second order of Bootstrap pickups and I'm impressed. The strat sounds amazing, a much bigger difference than I expected tbh. The jazzmaster pickups were pretty bad and the new ones also sound good.

I'm not that into pickups, so I don't have a great sense for these things (I always had a suspicion a lot of the pickup fanatics overlapped with people chasing mojo components, but what do I know). I've found these to be a great deal: $50/set, free shipping, and made in the US. Just need to wait a month for them to ship. Wish he made humbuckers.

Also added copper tape in the cavities of both guitars and replaced the tuners on the jazzmaster with GuitarFetish locking tuners. That completes my guitar upgrades for a while.

Those are so reasonably priced! Is the company just starting up?

No, I believe Bootstrap has been around for 5 years at least. From what I can see, they've been pretty consistently recommended on various Tele/Strat forums for that long. I've ordered from them twice this year (four sets of pickups now).

I’m so shocked by such low prices!

Nice easy fix on the workbench/ kitchen table tonight. I acquired this giant keyboard yesterday. It seems to be working great except the pitch wheel was glitching and throwing random values and pushing the pitch all over the place.

Easy to get to, and the pot is just a familiar looking open back Alpha. Quick shot of contact cleaner and we seem to be back in business. 🤞🏻

Wasn't expecting to see just a regular pot there, never thought about how those pitch wheels work either though. Pretty cool!

Nothing sexy but quality of life build...
Upgraded to a better audio probe.
Used one of those circuit tester with a light bulb jobs.

I picked up one of these old-school testers from Electronic Goldmine as it was so cheap I thought "Why not?" — even though I could dig a bunch out of my Dad's garage.

You have given my EG tester-unit a purpose in this life, ie — I'm totally stealing your idea.

Funny I just replaced both pots in my midi keyboard pitch and mod wheels. Both were dead somehow. Took them apart and cleaned them. Damaged tracks. I had to monkey around with getting the pitch wheel to center a bit. Seems these die quick or get damaged.

Yeah, for a buck or two, it seemed worth it. It's a little bulky but beats my old DMM prove with a cap suck inline. Also, with now having shielded cable, it's picking up way less emf from the bench lamp.

I love the natural binding @Pauleo1214. The flame looks great but the really distinct vertical growth lines give the top so much more depth. Have to imagine you're pretty happy with how this turned out?
I am! I am ready to get a clear coat on it, I just have to clean up some of the faux edge binding.

The first go was a mess, the red ran in a few areas and caused an uneven color gradient. I was able to strip the top without too much trouble but it gets tricky at the two scoops on the cutaways.
