What are people using for a 2SC732 alternative?

Since they appear to be permanently out of production (please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I need something for an UberDrive.

It looks like a high gain npn bjt when looking at the datasheet. Socket them of course, but I would try a 2n5088 or MPSA18 for starters. Double check the pinout. If I'm wrong please correct me.

They're input and output buffers. They do play a role in the bypass circuit, and while they aren't really necessary for true bypass, since they are in the signal path of the '"on" circuit, they are still in the PCB to replicate the sound accurately (and impedance properties).

Thanks! Sounds like the c-buffer board would be somewhat redundant, huh?

If my previous post wasn't clear, the UberDrive is a true-bypass pedal, but the buffer is there for only the "on" signal.
The SD1 is a buffered-bypass, and the buffer is part of both the "on" and "off" signals.

The c-buffer board would still be useful if you want to buffered bypass. But it would be redundant if you only wanted buffering of the "on" signal.
