Abyss Alternative LDRs

Has anyone used an alternative for the KE-10720 listed in the BOM? I'm only seeing them at Tayda but don't need to put an order in just for those.

They seem pretty close in specs, max voltage 100V vs 150v, light resistance is the same. Seems pretty close. Plus, I can have them at my house by tomorrow!

I can't always try and if it doesn't work at all, bite the bullet. But just wondering if anyone dared to try something different.

In my experience, the more important specs to match closely on LDRs are the light and dark resistances. The GL5516 matches the dark resistance better @ 0.5M than the GL5528 @ 1M. The light resistance on both are close enough. Either should work well. The GL5528 "might" provide greater 'depth".

I got some GL5516 from Amazon and they have worked well for the projects I have used them for so far but I have noticed some of them are much quicker to transition light to dark resistance than others. Not sure if it matters on this circuit but I tried to pick a fast one for the compressor I did recently.

This board is about 5 or so down my build list right now.

Yeah, that's one of the manufacturing issues with LDRs, they're not consistent across batches.

I found a pretty big variation in sound on the abyss depending on how far the LDRs were from the LED. I wouldn’t be surprised if that had a larger effect than the specs of your LDRs.
