I completely concur, and mainly juniors here too (one block of sophomores, but I lucked out with a good group). I also teach debate. 2 more days til spring break...I'm damn near counting the minutes.

Photographer. Still... barely! Not much work any more. That's ok, I can build amps and pedals. 30 years of taking photos; 20 of those years were very busy, fun, exhausting, stressful... some amazing, unexpected experiences, some tedious experiences. Overall, a fantastic job for someone like me. Loved the job, hate the business.
I recently had a job shooting wine bottles for a local producer. Part of the job is tedious - doing the stock shot of a bottle straight on, looking as perfect as it can be (which involves about 5 minutes shooting in the studio and 30 minutes retouching on the computer). Then they had asked for a social media shot - an opened bottle of chardonnay with a couple of glasses with wine in them. I shot it on my dining room table with an out of focus wall in the background. That bit reminded me of why I have been a photographer for so long. It was fun to set up the shot, balance the strobe with the available light, get a nice bit of gradated shadow on the label, compose it just so.

Te-kill-ya is about the only shot I do, but I will sip a good Scotch or Bourbon neat.
Not a fan of tequila at all, but will be pouring some tonight. Every Friday night I make a margarita for my wife. The way I make 'em she only needs one!
In summer, as it is (still!) here now, I like a bourbon on ice. I have been drinking some really strong cask strength stuff lately so it needs some dilution or else it feels like all the moisture has been sucked out of my head. But in winter it's a single malt neat. I never put ice in a single malt.

I actually do have a funny story about that. lolI had a friend who was a retired pilot. He had some wild UFO stories.

I'm opening a brewery/tiny taproom, it's been a slog to find a location that worked but we're making headway on the renovations and the state liquor license is perhaps the final major piece.

That’s awesome! My English teachers were some of my favorite teachers I ever had. I had one English teacher who I’d chat about gear and 70s fusion artists with a lot. As a kid I absolutely LOATHED writing, but after I started to get more into writing lyrics I took a creative writing class elective in my senior year of HS, and that teacher taught me how to love writing— ever since then, even when it comes to lengthy upper-division research assignments, I always get compliments on how much less dull my writing is to grade than the average student.
Idk if you get to hear it from your students much, but you’re definitely changing their lives. They might not realize it until a few years have passed and they’re out of school, so they may not have the chance to tell you if they haven’t kept in touch, but you’re definitely making a massive lasting impact on a few of them. You’re doing important work. Thanks, to you and all of the other English teachers out there who are teaching kids to love the written word.

First assignment I handed in to my grade 11 English teacher I got an F because he didn't think I wrote it (I wrote it, nobody else, all from my brain);
he said "I don't hear you talk like that in class"
Grade 12 English teacher more than made up for the previous year's idiot.
To ALL kinds of teachers on the forum ... keep up the good fight, echoing Nick's sentiments above — What you do matters greatly!

My mom was a middle school Italian teacher (she’s now retired), as in Italian literature (so basically like an English teacher) and some of her students ended up being my classmates in high school. They still talk about the impact she had on them. Keep up the great work teachers everywhere!
