What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

My latest PPCB order has arrived in the mail.

Of course, I'm currently on the opposite side of the planet...

SO, I went to the local Tom Lee and here's what I found that may be of interest:

53EC5831-F13A-41F0-A45E-7E4521729ABB.jpeg
US$108 — Not bad. Pretty expensive if I get it just for the enclosure.

19719809-7701-4A0F-99E8-2E2E821A699F.jpeg
US$191 each. Not so great a deal, I see them for about $200–$220, but still...
Vol/Exp w/ tuner in choice of black, silver or red.
Meh, never mind.

B761FEC5-EB5B-4A82-8F29-9825230F41A1.jpeg
US$161 — Hmm, I have a TC E Alter Ego, new still in box never opened from Pro Guitar Shop, paid about the same...
NEXT!

1114CCCE-9E27-448A-98BD-ECCE507C4FA5.jpeg
US$127 — They go for about 40 bucks more on Reverb. I'm completely unfamiliar with this thing, never even heard of it before seeing this one in its box.

There was also a TC E Wire Tap for a paltry $45 (thereabouts, I didn't take a pic). Thing is, the Wire Tap is no longer supported by TCE and ... while it'd be fun to have, would I make use of it? Realistically? Realistically, I don't need as many unpopulated-PCBs as I have waiting to be built up, but...

So the question is, my dear fellow forumites: Should I get the Variphase or the Twin Tube Mayhem? Anything else?

I had a wiretap and the Bluetooth connection is absolutely abysmal. I think I bought it on closeout for $35 and sold it for about the same. There's a reason it's unsupported...

The Variphase! Super fun pedal; I absolutely love mine. The switch less action makes it great for sudden bursts of phaser, especially with the boost turned up a smidge to cut thru. As someone who generally doesn’t really love univibe, the variphase perfectly fills that void for me. Phase 90 tone with the speed controllability of a univibe.

The quick loss of support for the wiretap app was a huge disappointment. It was really a great idea, and should have been supported longer. It’s actually the key reason why I’ve entirely written off any pedals that require an app for key functionality. That said, the wiretap is still a great pedal for capturing ideas in a live setting and offloading them to the computer via the usb connection at a later point. I have one on each of my boards for just that reason. I wouldn’t buy it again if I didn’t already have it, now that the app is obsolete, but I certainly wouldn’t get rid of the ones I have.

Just for the name and the box. What exactly is it?

Just a box of shrilly buzz; and Seymour Duncan doesn't even have it on the website under Legacy products, which is always a turn-off. At least put the manual online, SD!

Manual found elsewhere. It's running 2 x 6205 micro-tubes instead of 12AX7 dual-triodes.
Might be worth getting just to mod the crap out of it.

As for the Variphase, I just checked out this vid:

Well hell, all the treadle does is control the rate! F*@# that!

What I was expecting was the treadle controlling the sweep of the phase.

For what the variphase does, I'd rather build my own phaser and just have a two-knob job stomper for rate — one stomper for bypass, the other for fast/slow. So really this one would boil down to getting it just for the enclosure, gutting it and either building it as a phaser with treadle controlling sweep, or build it as a wah or Univibe or...

PS: @Bricksnbeatles — if it has the auto-on feature, I'll get it. The vid above says the 2 later ones didn't have that ability.

I bet it could be modded with a switch to do either. Or mod it to do just sweep. Madbean may still have one laid out for a wah enclosure. Would I spend 108 just to mod it? Maybe….

I got a bag of 20 7mm rubber grommets, a good fit for Boss pedal screw pin holder things.

Bought from AliExpress. <-LINK

They're a little different from official Boss product, but you'd have to look pretty closely to notice, and they're a couple of bucks for a bag of 20, as opposed to a couple of bucks each for the real thing.

I also bought a bag of 20 white 8mm ones that were a little more expensive, I will report in when they arrive.

I can't be the only one receiving the bounty of mailbox goodies, can I?

Anyhoo. Chop Shop, Uber, Cobalt.

There's a Boneyard Scratchcard Lanyard Edition of the Cobalt which is, I think, buildable with the standard PCB so I'll think that over while I work through all the other PCBs and other projects that are in the queue.

Couple of more BJFE circuits woot!

SeaBed Delay (Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay)
Symbolic Drive (Mad Professor Simble Drive)
Graphite Distortion (Mad Professor Stone Grey Distortion)

A "Honey Bear" board from our own @jimilee (Mad Professor Sweet Honey Drive)

I wasn't planning on building any more digital delays but I've heard so many great things about this one I had to check it out.

Looking forward to building all these babies out!
