Clarinet stuff. Got a clarinet pickup en route from Australia too :) Really excited to blast that fucker through a rat

Awesome! I didn’t know you played clarinet.
Is it a piezobarrel pickup? I know they’re in Australia and I’ve always been super intrigued by them. I don’t play myself, but I have a huge interest in amplified woodwinds thanks to Frank Zappa and Van Der Graaf Generator. I have some effects I’ve been working on for wind instruments that I’ll have to show you when I’m done getting them worked out— have some local friends from my university’s marching band who are gonna be testing them for me.

I’ve been teaching myself for a little less than a month now, never played a wind instrument before other than recorder in 2nd grade. The finger dexterity from guitar has made it pretty easy to pick up. And yup, I ordered a piezobarrel.

Suuuper excited to hear you’re working on some stuff for winds and can’t wait to take a peek

DANG! If I'd known I would've said ship one up for me too and I'll split the ShipPing.

I don't play clarinet, but my wife used to. Trying to get her back into it... and was thinking I'd sneak some time on her clarinet myself, but ...
she's always at home, except maybe when the dog gets taken for a short walk.

Ali and EoL transistors? I know where my money sits.

Ya, not sure what these guys actually are, but the pin out is right. Oh well.

N-Ch JFET
Symmetrical Src/Drn
Vgs(off)=-0.56V at Id=5.0µA
Vgs(on)=0.02V at Id=5.01mA
gfs=20.8mA/V at Id=3.0mA to 5.0mA
Idss=4.51mA at Vds=3.00V
Rds(on)=28.2Ω at Id=5.0mA and Vgs=0.0V

N-Ch JFET
Symmetrical Src/Drn
Vgs(off)=-0.55V at Id=5.1µA
Vgs(on)=0.03V at Id=5.01mA
gfs=21.2mA/V at Id=3.0mA to 5.0mA
Idss=4.35mA at Vds=2.99V
Rds(on)=27.5Ω at Id=5.0mA and Vgs=0.0V

Since you've stated that you're a beginner with the reeds, a quick word of advice. My single reed friends often complain about how many shitty reeds come in a new box. They tend to test all 10 and sometimes only keep like 2 or 3 of them. If you're struggling with those 3, get a bigger box to sift through.

My wife plays oboe... be thankful you won't have to do any of that double reed upkeep nonsense.

That’s awesome to hear! I’ve been itching to pick up a wind instrument for a while now. I adore oboe and bassoon, but affordable double-reed instruments are an oxymoron, plus they’re incredibly difficult. Bass clarinet is probably second place for what I’d like to learn— in fact I was seriously considering buying one of the bass clarinets that was used on Trout Mask Replica and Zappa’s Uncle Meat just a year or two ago bc it was a great price.

Bass clarinet, the king of single reeds. I once approached a bass clarinetist about doing some funk/hip hop stuff but he said he was "legit only." So close....

This has been my wake up alarm for at least the past 15 yrs. Bass clarinet is my transition out of dreamland.

Just got home from work and this beauty arrived from sweetwater. I haven’t even plugged it in yet and I’m already impressed. It’s so sexy I don’t even mind that it has side jacks.

Edit: Plugged it in. Rocks. I like the dry mode off so you can just hear the harmonic stuff. wild!

Make sure you hook it up to a breadboard to save time when you're measuring loads of transistors.

Got this a couple of days ago. Got it off Rwvwrb for 149.00. Now I can have more gear laying around I might use.

To ensure I’ll use it, I built a dual switcher for start / stop and fill/ tap tempo.

Where’s that image from?

I’ve been in love with this Santa Cruz skateboard logo since I was a kid.

Man I would never wake up to that, seriously. Enter full blown REM cycle again.

I tried waking up to music 20+ years ago. Woke up long after my "alarm" with the radio blaring. Annoying bells or nothing.
