What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I got my SmallBear order today of some cheap enclosures and some oddball parts for a couple of upcoming builds.

BUT, I had a hitchhiker that came with my order. I have no idea what this is or why I ordered it. I double checked my order online and sure enough I ordered it, I just don't know if was a late night fumble finger or I needed it for something. Anyone know wtf this diode is for?

According to SmallBear "NOS germanium work-alike, Vfwd average .260 volt, for the Harmonic Percolator and clones."

It works in my coffee machine? Oh and I only ordered one........

There's a thread for that 😎

Pair it with a too leaky Ge transistor and rock out. One of a kind-klipping

Use it as protection diode :)

Okay…you drive a hard bargain. I dug through my stash…will this work?

Yeah, I guess.

As I'm sure you've found yourself, information ie datasheets for "Buffered 4049" are about as common as Hen's Teeth (hmm need a new reference for that, as there is the Hen's Tooth PCB right here at good (not so) ol' PedalPCB).

Yeah, buffered 4049 are about as rare as ...

... well-informed knowledgable non-gullible Feral Felines.

I had read this is the puppy if you want a truly bonkers build with Dwarfcraft's "The Great Destroyer" circuit AND/OR the TTG's "Christine" circuit.

There was a thread which had some of this buffered-vs-unbuffered nonsense in it; IIRC, our resident space-EE cum FX-circuit guru Chuck said it was a phantom chip, didn't exist. Then some time after that I may or may not have uncovered evidence to the contrary.

SO!

Is the CD4049CN truly a buffered chip? Is it a match for the CD4049BE (fabley-buffered) or is it just another CD4049UBE (unbuffered) IC?

And then what of these two?
MC14049MCP ———this one recommended for both Christine and Great Destroyer..
NTE4049

Purportedly also buffered.

I don't know. I just want to build a Double Great Destroyer and a Christine with the recommended BUFFERED IC to get the nutso-crazy asylum-induced sounds.

I ABSOLUTELY WELCOME A DEFINITIVE ANSWER ...

...So I can give up chasing ghost ICs,
or continue the hunt with solid knowledge they exist.

I’ll figger out is it is, or is it ain’t…..both buffered and bonafide then report back. (y)

Red Llama anyone? (aka Ample Alpaca )

You may need to touch up the solder on your pot pins? Hard to tell from the pic.
Love the colourful pot-condoms. Do they come in white, too? That'd be pretty patriotic of you...

Man, what an awesome mail week it's been!

SWAG and a cool boost pedal from @thewintersoldier, a PPCB gift card from @fig and now this cool box o goodness from @swelchy!

Looks like I know someone with a 3-D Printer! Pot covers, a "IC leg straighten outer thingy", another cool boost board and non-marring pedal sockets! And an LM308! Woohoo! Thanks Shane!!

Soooo you got enough of those leg straightener thingys to share with the class?🤣 don’t know how many times I’ve jacked the legs on an IC trying to get them to fit in a socket
