Local seller on AU eBay has some Tantalum caps that ARE NOT MUSTARD COLOURED.

I know back in the olden days they came in various hues, before someone decided they all had to be yellowy-brown. So these may be NOS, but I'm sure they're fine to use. Probably.

Most of them are in unusable voltage ratings, 10V or lower, but there are some decent ones, so I grabbed:
20 x 4.7uF 25V
10 x 22 uF 25V

If you look closely, you'll see that (top right in the first pic) I got 4 x 35V blues and (top left in the second pic) one 16V greenie. I'm not going to complain about it, I feel like the 35Vs more than make up for the 16V.

I tested about 6 of each and they're all in the general vicinity of correctness.

I paid more than they're worth but the amusement value has to count for something.

I still have some red and orange tants with usable voltage ratings.
I probably have about a pound of blue ones somewhere, too. But they're 6.3v-10v

Sadly, I checked and voltage ratings stay the same even with caps in series or parallel, so you can't use them in anything pedal-related.

Very exciting mail day here courtesy of @MichaelW and indirectly @szukalski sheepmaster board, a couple germs, couple B I G caps for guitars, some weird black thing, and one of those fantastic grey crackle enclosures. I'm very excited to put that treble booster board in that enclosure.

I didn't know those enclosures had been available and felt some really hard FOMO when I saw Michael's build report. Thanks a million! I'm going to build the sheepmaster "immediately" (read: like 3-5 weeks or something realistically)

And a pedalpcb order (GASP) a very good day indeed IMG_20230331_151542657.jpg

That enclosure is rad! where were they available from?

My work has 50+ sets of small component storage drawers in deep storage, I believe they were for prototyping & testing back when we engineered in hardware rather than software. No one seems to know what is in any of them, so I convinced them to let me have a couple!

These two looked the most promising, and were a mixture of ICs and transistors, mostly from the 70s & 80s.

I've already gone through and reorganized these, but the one on the right was a mishmash of logic, RAM, ROM, EEPROM, and microprocessor ICs. Most of the memory & microprocessor stuff is from before my time, so the only thing I really recognized were the Zilog & Intel CPUs. I can't find anything about the brown module with "HI-Q" stamped on it, any ideas? I currently have no use for these, so hit me up if you need 'em. I would love to get these in the hands of folks that could actually use them.

The other set of drawers was filled with audio ICs and various types of transistors (I'd organized & moved all the CD4xxx-series logic chips over as well by the time I took these pics). Are SCRs or triacs useful for any audio builds? Can't say I've seen any builds that call for them.

Whoever was using these was actually pretty well organized, so (unlike the other set of drawers) I didn't have to do much to get everything sorted out.
Transistors above CROP Large.jpeg
There were a ton of Si, Ge, JFET, MOSFET, and UJT transistors, including literal pounds of bulky power transistors. The germaniums were basically just all mixed together, so sorting & finding info on them took me absolute ages.

I still need to test most of them, so I guess we'll see if the specs are usable. The most interesting (and mostly new to me) components were the audio ICs - preamps, power amplifiers, and sound/noise generators.

The SN76477 & SN76488 complex sound generators seem to have been popular for magazine projects back in the day, so I'm definitely going to give some of those a shot. The TA7137 & 7136 preamp chips look to have been used in Boss circuits like the DS-1, CS-1, & CE-1, so I've definitely got plans for those. Does anybody have experience with the rhythm generator, digital noise generator, or CMOS oscillator divider chips? I'm hoping there are some Eurorack projects that will have a use for those, I've already used a bunch of CD4xxx ICs in a few modules.

$300 Tayda order placed, and it doesn’t even have any components in it 😅
I’ll have to wait until after the semester is over to actually get things built. They were also out of splined shaft C1K 9mm pots, which I need for a school project, so if anyone knows of a place with fast shipping (ie, not small bear) that has them, please lmk!
