What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Well, it finally happened. I've reached peak clown status.

I picked this up off eBay for pretty darn cheap. I didn't expect to win it, and I'm not sure that I'm happy that I did, but here we are!

The "format" button was missing and I heard some rattling inside and assumed that was it. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

That's not a good sign 😬

I couldn't really find any good photos of the guts to see where this little guy came from, and shaking the unit didn't reveal any more noises. So I grabbed a flashlight and found this other little guy hiding in a bed of wires.

I took a shot of the guts when I first opened it up and you can see it peeking out where I circled.

I was able to find a video on cleaning the heads on YT that showed a gut shot, and was able to get everything back in place.

I bought some S-VHS tapes off eBay and am waiting for them, and I also need a couple 1/4 to RCA adapters, so I can't test it out yet. But assuming it all works and isn't just a giant waste of time and money (it probably will be) I'm going to do something like this with it (Probably? No promises 😂):

Thanks for reading this edition of Peccary's Stupid Clown Show 😂

That's actually really cool. I have a lot of experience with the follow-on Alesis product that records 24 tracks to hard disk drives (HD24).

If it works well I'll be pretty stoked. I feel kind of silly buying outdated, obsolete stuff, but I just can't help it and have a strange calling to it.

I looked at those HD24s as well and they're pretty cool, but not nearly as inexpensive as thse ADATs. I ended up winning this one for $18.50 on eBay. Shipping was double what I paid 😂

But if it ends up working I'll consider it $60 well spent.

Starting a new job on Monday, rewarded myself with some tool upgrades - a Fluke 115 and a Peak DCA75 :D

As much as I was tempted, I did not splurge on the Fluke tester probe set and picked up this one instead: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GNVFL5D?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
My initial impressions of it are great!

Here's what I am upgrading from:

The "ancient" Craftsman DMM still works just fine, but it's big, awkward, and clunky. Next to it is my jfet measuring rig which is also being retired. I retested some J201s with the DCA75 and they match up roughly :)

Dude! I had that same Crapsman meter! It was my first digital meter that I bought in 1997 when my analog meter died and I couldn’t afford a Fluke! That was my primary meter I used up until 2006. Did all I needed for my amp business!

Yeah, I would have bought it around that same time frame too haha.
