What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

@jwin615 I’m rolling these in a deluxe so different applications but for dirt have you tried the RFTs? They break up quicker than any other tube I’ve tried. I’d probably stay clear of the Japan tubes as well as the German Telefunken and Siemens. They’re bold and Hi-fi. Other options without breaking the bank would be the Tungsram or Amperex or even any good GE short or long plate. I think GEs are best bang for buck and most underrated tube out there. Probably because there’s just so many of them. You can find a good short gray plate Sylvania from the late 50s for around 30. If you can find the black plate version even better. If you need help with tube sellers pm me. I get most of my tubes tested at Tube Depot because they aren’t far from me and only charge $3 for testing on a Maxi Matcher and TV-7 so I have a pretty good grasp on who’s really testing on eBay.

Or, if you already found your dirt tones and just want to enhance it then the Japans or other Hifi tube could be just what you’re looking for. Any of the GEs would work well too but I’d look into the late 50s to early 60s long gray plates like these or again the Sylvania short plates.

Here’s a good tube shoot out in Vacuum Tube Valley from a good while back. https://www.tiffe.de/roehren/VTV/VTV14.pdf IMG_3213.jpeg

Please stop with the tube discussion I don’t need another money sink tyvm

Repeat after me : I have JJ and I am happy I have JJ and I am happy
I like JJs as well. Particularly their ECC803. Psvane can be had dirt cheap and I was very suprised how quiet and neutral they were. I did pay the extra for high gain and microphonics check at tube depot though. Tubes are a rabbit hole for sure though lol. JJs are fine.

I asked @blackhatboojum to make me these baseplates for my DD-3. My guy came through clutch with these. Everyone knows how hard it is to get Velcro to stick properly to the rubber on the bottom of a boss pedal. This thing is super sturdy and rock solid on my board. It's never felt this secure before. I told him it even sounded better 😂. Thanks Clinton 🤘🙏😤💪👑🫡

That's handy. I'm sure you may know this - but just in case, you can flip the baseplate on most Boss pedals. Not only does it protect the original label but the dual-lock seems to adhere a lot more to the bare underside.

Im fully aware of this but not every pedal of the space to accommodate the rubber. Also the screws then stick out past the Velcro on the plate. This is a much better solution.

You’re very welcome. I’m just glad I could use my 3D printer for something useful, instead of the useless, plastic crap I normally print out 😂.

Also worth noting that the standard Boss pedal will also accommodate a standard 125B bottom plate. I only have one Boss pedal on my board, but that's how I mounted it. Spare Tayda 125B bottom plate with velcro, then the original Boss plate gets stored for safekeeping in case I ever sell the pedal.

I did this on a tu-3 I had. The screws are still kinda short. Unfortunately it's not the best fit with the large style Japanese adapters like the pedal shown above

I bought basically most of every modern and "cheap" 12ax7 to do some rolling and compare and to be honest, I haven't found huge difference between most of them. Between Psvane and JJ ECC83s (and some TAD premium) I'm perfectly happy. Ok maybe a LPS for fun or PI here and there too...

I used Psvane for a while a couple years ago when JJ's became scarce, and the biggest thing that I noticed was that they were consistently below spec on mu. I was getting ECC83's that on paper should have a mu of 100 and were measuring at 80. That difference in gain was very audible to me. Not sure if they've changed their QC since then.

I heard (haha pun) their quality improved but I can’t vouch for that. Mine are less than a year old are sound fine with comparable gain to other offerings. But judging by the initial drift on my kt88 bias I would think they could do a better job burning tubes in.

Interesting, that might actually be a bonus for me. But I hate 12AX7s for anything but gainy guitar and generally avoid them anyway.
