What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

So a couple years ago I bought some used focusrite stuff with great specs and could never get it to play nice with the rest of my setup. Drivers, O/S, etc etc. {grumble}

Last year I bought a new iMac mini M4 with logic pro and final cut pro so that takes care of that side of the equation.

Just bought this last night and today the price went back up to $750!¡!¡ This just kicks the ever loving cr@p out of the older equipment. Looking forward to recording using my ribbon mics with the proper high gain needed...

Focusrite makes good stuff. That interface looks really nice.

Let’s see.. SBP enclosures, jacks, some cliff outtie power jacks, 9mm pots, and whatnot.

Mega Tayda order of knobs, dressnuts .. uuh a few 1590dd encloses arrives Monday.

Traded off a few older commercial pedals today + 150$ USD for an amplifier as well..’gotta have something next to the test bench, right?

OK...I've done it now. I got a smoking deal on it but I'm pretty sure I'm having a midlife crisis. It's better than a 'vette! I guess I need to find a couple of bands to help out now. Maybe an install for a venue. I had the x32 rack but I sold it last year thinking I was done with local sound. Turns out I suppose I just wanted my own full rig. I went with LD for the speakers because they sound good and are decent value IMO. Two 18" subs, two 12" tops and five 10" monitors. Storage is tricky, can't fit it all in my Subaru and my wife wasn't thrilled but we're there! Rack comes this week but I still need to figure out the speaker stand situtation.

I want to tell you a story about my mail delivery service.

One day I got a 'notification' for a parcel delivery (Tone capacitors)

I go to the mailbox and it's empty....hm, is someone stealing my mail out of the box?

No, apparently the mail person cannot tell the difference between a 1 and a 7 and my package is being delivered across town to someone else.

New guy delivering mail on this route...ok, I guess first time mistakes, forgivable, but how often has this been happening and for how long now?

(There's gotta be some kind of adage/paradox along the lines of 'we don't know what we don't know' at play here)

So, the place, the other house... turns out to be some kind of low-rent pad across town and it's a little low brow, I'm not going to get involved with. Apparently no one there is responsible enough to return the mail that keeps being delivered to the wrong address. Now I'm sometimes getting this persons mail too!!

I bring back the other persons mail, to the post office, no big deal... once, twice, three, four...and more...finally get a message angrily jotted on a post-it note from the delivery guy to just leave the other persons mail in the box and he'll pick it up. Oh, so apparently he must have got a 'talkin' to' by his superiors for the repeat occurance, since I've been trying to do the right thing by returning someone else's mail? Even though none of my mail has been returned?

Here's the question I ask you!!

Why is it always my fault when someone else is an idiot?

It goes on.....and on.....unfortunately.

This happened with some important documents as well, that have never been returned. This is now a thing, since the mail route and employees have been in a transitionary phase. This is the new norm, since cutbacks, strikes and other things.

Haven't had trouble ordering things being delivered through a private courrier yet of course, like Amazon for example...even though they might sometimes mistake my snow covered ditch for the entrance way and get stuck in the snow.

That said, I'm reluctant to order anything, so I haven't been doing as many builds as I'd like.

One of my packages while I was in HK went to the wrong flat. My brother-in-law got it for me and that, with another package that was also delivered late (both from Germany 🧐 ), were to be sent by him to me, from HK to Canada.

I told him don't bother. The whole point of shipping to HK was because I was going to be there and to save on shipping/taxes/duty/etc and bring it home myself. Now I've got to wait at least a year before I'll be back in HK for those builds — leaving me here in Canada with nothing to do and twiddling my thumbs... oh, wait. My back-log. I forgot about my back-log that's big enough to break my back if not my bank.

Nudder delivery story.

The former tenant of our house (who rented from the original owner that we bought the house from) showed up a few times to collect mail that was sent to her old address, our house. I told her

"Don't worry, I'll keep letting you know when some mail arrives for you."

SHE: "Oh, you won't be getting any more mail, I put in a change of address at the post office, but thanks."

ME: "Well, it's been my experience that stuff still squeeks through well after the address change is made..."

She cut me off smugly assuring me that I would never receive another mail or package for her or her husband...

Five (5) years later, her and her husband's mail is still coming here — bank-cards, tax-docs and other seemingly important stuff.
I long ago stopped letting her know to pick up the latest batch, she's always been rude about me doing her a favour so —

I just shove it back in the postal system, I've wrote upon it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone

UPS option for post has been cheapest for me in Melb from Tayda and PedalPCB recently, so obviously Im into cheap post costs. When UPS arrives in Australia it's handed off to Startrack, a division of Auspost. Startrack have never delivered a package to my house, they go straight to the post office. I get an SMS at 8-9 in the morning, no trucks come up the road, and then by 12 I have an SMS to say its been delivered to the post office.
I can get up to the post office on my lunch break but carrying shit home is a pain in the ass.

Oops! Another brand collection. 🤷‍♀️

Plasma Voice (the second Eurorack I will stuff in a pedal enclosure) will come shipped with the Recoder in a few weeks. There was 25% discount on all plasma products.

A Latvian electronic instrument store has its second store in the Netherlands, which helped making this not a too crazy endeavour.

Time to save up for the Motor Synth MK2. 🙈

Maybe a LITTLE excessive, but better safe than sorry. Having personally seen one of my acoustics almost explode from an open window in wintertime, I would exercise extra caution.

Edit: the acoustic survived and still sounds perfect but some of the bracing definitely separated from the back. It looked like an alien was about to burst out the back of the guitar for a few seconds.

I struggle with this, seems EXCESSIVE. Sure, open the outer box and let the sit for an hour. Then open the case, let it air out for a few hours before you tune it up. Use common sense, does it feel like it's at room temperature or is it still cold to the touch? YMMV.

As it turns out I've been too busy to play it anyway, so tonight I'll do the grand unveiling!

There's a unique form of happiness found in anticipation. It's slightly childish, in that it has this flair of... Unrealism. Which makes things look very rozy, which is pleasant to be billowed by. :)

It's something "retail therapy" has been ruining, by keeping us buying (the highs aren't as high anymore), but the same goes for vacations that are on the horizon as well; the one somewhat lasting veil of escapism from life's reality, which reveals its actual self again once you're there and the spell breaks down.
