Any word on this project @Robert?
I need to start back on it soon.
I put tracing things on hold when I lost my desk, but that's taking much longer than expected so I've started easing back into it again.... at my workbench, of all places. I've never traced anything at my workbench and it feels weird..
Different bench, meter, computer, chair, everything.... it's just all wrong. Much better lighting though, so I really need to get used to it.![]()
No, for that one they slapped a single tone control on the end of a Soldano SLO and swapped two component values.
Somehow it works better than having the full tone stack...![]()
Anything with a thought out FMV stack should be run in your FX Return/Power Amp In, as it is supposed to replace your amp's preamp.
It may be a hot take, but am I wrong?
Any time you say something is "supposed to" do something, I have to disagree, because the answer is always "it depends", and frankly if a designer tells me how something is "supposed to" be used then I will purposefully try to use it another way.It may be a hot take, but am I wrong?
Pretty much boils down to opinions and preferences, I'll retract the decisiveness of my statement, but will still have that as my stance. I respect your mindset about all this. I had to look up what a DC30 was to get context, in the case of channel 2 being as barebones as it is a preamp up front is a no brainer, pretty much makes it a feature complete setup. I'll stop here since I don't want to give off the impression I'm arguing, have a good night man.Any time you say something is "supposed to" do something, I have to disagree, because the answer is always "it depends", and frankly if a designer tells me how something is "supposed to" be used then I will purposefully try to use it another way.
Overdrives are allowed to have FMV tonestacks but an overdrive that isn't pushing a tube preamp is an overdrive wasted, in my opinion. Similarly if you have something that's marketed as a preamp and has an FMV tonestack but your amp has a pretty clean front end with simple or no tone controls, you may very well like the sound of the preamp running into the front end of the amp.
Real world example: my main amp is a DC30, and I primarily use the EF86 channel, which just has a 5-way Tone rotary switch and a "Cut" knob. I can get some amazing results with tonestack-equipped pedals into the front end of that and I never bypass the preamp and go straight to the power amp.
I mean you're supposed to charge me to send one of your Nobelium over to me here in the UK right? Walshy says they are better than the Nobel...Any time you say something is "supposed to" do something, I have to disagree, because the answer is always "it depends", and frankly if a designer tells me how something is "supposed to" be used then I will purposefully try to use it another way.
