What's your current headache?

^ mine too. Pixel 6a. Last update really reduced battery capacity. I do have over 600 cycles on it and it does overheat at times though, so they have a point. I just bought a replacement on Amazon. Nothing wrong with the phone, just the battery. I miss the olden days when you could just swap it out in seconds.

Just under 500 cycles for mine. I swapped to a glitchy old phone for the time being

I put an amazon battery in my iphone 6s three years ago. I got impatient with the removal procedure and flexed the old one and it immediately caught on fire. Pretty exciting. New battery is still going strong though. Phone is on it's fourth screen too. One of the things I'm dreading about eventually upgrading is that I've heard screen swaps are a lot harder on the newer ones.

Gonna need to change the one in my OnePlus soon. I have to run it in battery saver full time now and I only get two or so days to keep it between 20–80%. I'd do it myself, but it's s glued to the screen special. Could buy a heated silicone mat, tools, adhesive, but too much hassle, and my time is sadly more valuable these days.
 
Job hunting. I hate it. I am trying to find something better than I’m doing right now but software engineering has become such a difficult job market. I got a bunch of rejections already which is frustrating when a few years ago I used to receive so many messages from recruiters across the tech industry. Oh well. It’s a crappy industry anyways. Does anybody have any experience with changing career midlife? I promise it’s not a midlife crisis! 😜

I went from working in restaurants to being a cinematographer in my mid thirties. I had started by editing commercial video and got tired of getting sub par footage delivered so I learned how to shoot and got my first "real" lens (Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS) in 2010. I'm still not quite sure how I pulled it off but I know the 10,000 hour rule applied. These days I can shoot blindfolded, with one arm tied behind my back while skydiving at night.
 
I went back to school in my mid 30s for an EE AAS. 2 kids and worked full time. Done in 21 months. Slept about 20-25 hours a week but got it done.
Opened a lot of doors.
Got in the medical imaging industry through a paid internship. It's a pretty unique industry in that the markets don't really slow it down. Peiple are going to get sick and injured. Prosperity off the tribulations of others and whatnot. But it is fulfilling and I can take pride in my work and know that it helps others.

I switched to software engineering in my thirties after having some kids. I was a recording engineer before that.

I’ve had a lot of shitty, toxic situations in the software world. But I’ve also had really shitty toxic recording projects.

To keep my burnout from turning into a meltdown, I’ve done everything I can to tamp-down work related stress. I have it about as good as I think I’ll get it, for now.

At this point, it’s less about what I’m doing for work. As long as it’s not morally shitty. It’s more about how the business is being conducted. I can’t stand people above me making stupid decisions. I get frustrated when my boss is so spineless and incompetent that I’m doing their job for them. And I loathe not being treated like a professional and an adult.

I wish you the best of luck in finding something more harmonious.

Yes, I quit when my Daughter was diagnosed with autism, I was never home and that occupation took quite a few of my friends lives… so now I’m a stay at home dad, the pay is terrible, the hours are long the bosses have cryptic demands but I love em both. In a way autism might have literally saved my life.. sometimes what starts out to be the hardest situation of your life can ends up being the best thing for you…

After my second divorce, my dad asked me when I was going to cut my hair and grow up. I said, “well, I’ve had to different mortgages and 2 divorces. I’m afraid this is as good as it’s going to get.” 🤣 Wife #3 loves me and encourages my building and guitar habits.
