Why are people like this?

So.... @Pauleo1214

What'd you tell him?
Yeah? So? I don't have time to build my own pedals because of folks like YOU.

Now let's get back to that vision..... can you do it or not??

Still radio silence from me.
The thread humor basically confirmed what my gut felt

He tossed out Avalanche Run, Forget Me Not, and a Night Sky like we’re casually shopping a $1,200 ambient chain and I’m supposed to reverse-engineer it with DIY parts and vibes.

I’ve got FV-1s and Buff n’ Blends, not a Strymon R&D lab and a DSP team.

Could I build something ambient? Sure.
Do I want to sign up to manage expectations for someone whose creative direction is “watch me hold a note and contemplate the universe on YouTube”? That’s a bigger ask.

I build pedals, not personalized tone identities in exchange for exposure and existential mystery.

Burnout has me valuing projects where the vision and the budget both exist in the same dimension.

Leaning toward a polite no, unless his definition of “custom” comes with a definition of “paid.”

I am trying to overcome a burnout that has lasted a long while. Enjoyment from pedal building, guitar building, and simply noodling on guitars vanished into thin air. I am trying to force myself out of it by dipping my toes in the water.

Then this guy comes along on ebay.

TL/DR: You there! Do you build pedals? I have a vision! Watch my YouTube and figure out what that vision is!

Seriously, nobody goes into a department store and tells a worker to decide what underwear they should wear.
a lot of us have been there, I've been pitched some wild stuff by musicians with a YT channel, a dream, and an empty wallet

regarding department store workers and underwear, women have been doing that at bra fittings forever ... some handsy old woman who can grope you real fast and pick out the size you need. the whimsical side of me likes to imagine there's a school where you learn this tradecraft

Last week I had a guy lowball me super hard on a pedal that was expensive to build and really cool, so I declined his offer, and the next day he offered the same amount, but this time with a message saying he was building a board of DIY pedals and really liked the paint job on this one, but then he wanted to know if I could paint it green instead, and then he said he'd appreciate whatever blah blah

I took the time to block him thru reverb's process where you have to contact support, and the pedal sold the next day for my asking price + free shipping

If the buyer is a dipshit aint nobody got time for that

Demos for gear= scavenger In my book and is never worth your time. I feel ya on the burnout part, The last couple of builds my heart hasn’t been in it. If building something for someone else doesn’t give you the warm and fuzzys save your energy for something that does.

Update: too many red flags that I gave him a polite, no. He then asked me if I offer my lo-fi pedal outside of auction format.

The lo fi pedal is a levitation reverb into the low tide into a Sherwood drive. The current price of that is $69 on auction with no reserve.

The fact he is fishing around instead of shutting up and putting in a bid made me add him to my block bidder list.
