WHY DOESN'T MY 9VDC POWER SUPPLY WORK WITH MY PEDALS ?

I tried using a 120 ac - 9 vdc power supply on my homemade pedals and it doesn't work ? 9 vdc batteries do - why ? ex : electra dist schematic ?

Most pedal PCBs are expecting Center Negative.
