Worst Cover Songs Of All Time

Im a big john prine fan particularly his first album. This cover seems lifeless but the worst part is changing the line in the chorus from “jesus christ died for nothing i suppose” to whatever he says.

I kinda like that Randy California one... thanks!

Could also be the era/production value that contributes a lot to whether I like or dislike it. That I Am Sam soundtrack is that perfectly awful, polished, trite, style of production. Maybe I just hated adolescence and was ready to get out of my parents' house ...and that thing that turned things upside down forever happened around that time.

almost hard to recognize.
it brought character to the song regardless of the source material
exactly

I know we're talking bad covers, but I think this is one is a good one. I can't explain it at all, but I love this cover.
I know Esther Phillips' is more notable, but again, I can't explain it. I do love the slower tempo.

Oh, back on track, here's another one for the burn pile:

How about every song that stole it's vibe from the worst god damn song in the classical repertoire? Fuck every song presented in this video except for maybe Blues Traveler's Hook. They get a pass because the progression is an intended joke in that example. But also.... fuck that song too. It's very funny to me that both Aerosmith and Ben Folds were among the guilty.

Honestly, this is why I couldn’t get into that “Mad World” cover from Donnie Darko that was all the rage for a while. Absolutely not.

see I don't mind that one but it really was the beginning of the downhill slope of what I'm talking about hahaha

I opened for them in Denver during that era.

We drew more people that night. They were not impressed.

Well, I can't say I didn't ask for this. Good lord, that is truly painful.

Funny - I was waiting tables in 2000/2001 downtown Chicago and my manager walked up to me and said "hey, you're a musician - look who's behind you!" I turned around to see a bunch of standard-issue grubby dudes and some very disinterested companions. "It's Puddle Of Mudd!" he said. I turned around again, and the band kinda looked up as they had likely heard the back-and-forth. They probably expected me to approach them, but I just shrugged to my manager and walked away. Guess I should have feigned interest, but... I had strawberry lemonade to refill.

Do xmas songs count?
Ehh, tbh I didn't find it that bad, it's a little boring and too long maybe, but I don't think "bland" should count for "Worst Cover Songs of All Time" or we'll never run out of what to post.
Did Twisted Sister have a good song? Ever? I so loathe that band and it’s from my generation.
We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock are great, but then I'm much younger. Maybe they were "ahead of their time" in that sense.

I didn't mind the Sid Vicious My Way either tbh, the intro was tough to listen to, but then it was quite obviously meant to be a parody thing. Rest of the song had rough production at least in that video, but otherwise didn't seem too bad.

For my own contribution I'd like to give you the whole "Danzig sings Elvis" album, here's an example:

I struggle to think of an album with a "big name" artist that has worse production and mixing than this.

Glennifer can’t stay out of his own way. I’m pretty sure he produced that Elvis album himself the same way he insisted on producing that Verotika movie. Not “so bad it’s good”, just aggressively mediocre

He’s done this thing for years where he pulls his own mic away during the last syllable of each line

Around the 4 minute mark it starts to creep in. Seems like the kind of thing someone would have brought up by THIS point but criticism must physically hurt him

Same performance 2:33

Well I’m all the way down the rabbit hole now, I was right though. He’s been doing this shit since the 90s. About the minute mark it starts again:

I don’t get it man

I know I'll take a beating for this, but I really liked the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence. I like that guy's voice though.

Problem is that every other dog video my wife watches uses a lumpy sounding pitch shifted version that if I have to hear again I'll lose my mind.

Oh who am I kidding, I lost it decades ago...

I HATED Miley Cyrus' cover of the Prince tune on SNL50 last night.
