This is the bass preamp that Peter Hook went nuts over, and I've read that when they discontinued the "S" version of the BB1200 he bought a bunch of them to make sure he'd never be without it. Master Effects has made one, called the Transmission, which had a separate foot switch for a volume boost.
These are apparently the schematics, if that's helpful. I'm sure many of you could do it on vero with just the schem, but I am not quite there yet and am looking to cheat my way there more quickly. I also think that this is something other bass players would dig.
One issue may be the transistors. The 2sc2240 transistors seem hard to find, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if/which substitutions would work.
