First bit of mail today (I’ll post the second one later after I finish an essay, when I have time to sort thru it all)…
Here’s one most of you are probably unfamiliar with, but it’s the two new reissues from GUM!
The first album, Delorean Highway, is one of my favorite psychedelic rock albums of all time. Released by Jay Watson (of Tame Impala and Pond fame) in 2014 under the moniker of GUM, delorean Highway is an amazing blend of psychedelic rock, prog, and power pop. I missed out on the initial pressing of this album back in 2014 because it was only available from Australia, and I was too broke as a 15 year old to afford the transcontinental shipping— it sold out quick and quickly skyrocketed in price on the used market. This new pressing is the first time it’s being reissued since then, and it’s been remastered by Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker. Standout tracks are “Growing Up”, “21st Century Radiation”, and a wonderful cover of Genesis’ “Misunderstanding”
The second album is the new Kevin Parker remaster of GUM’s 2015 sophomore release, Glamorous Damage, which takes the lofi elements of Delorean Highway, and trades then in for tons and tons of fat monosynth riffs. I have a first pressing of this one that I preordered way back when, but the value of that one has skyrocketed to a point where I’m barely comfortable playing it anymore, so this fantastic remastered reissue will serve as the one that goes on the turntable. Standout Tracks are “Notorious Gold”, “Anesthetized Lesson”, and “R.Y.K”
I’ll drop links for y’all to check them out. Don’t sleep on it!
