CONTEST Buddy's Contest

Ok so with Chucks help this is what ive come up with so far. For the past 2 days ive been playing this revised version and have been having alot of fun. Going to move onto designing the board! Its virtually a Fuzz Face with High and Lo Pass filters.

I think you will need the GATE knob to compensate for thermal drift if you use Ge for Q1. You could try Si for both or Si for Q1 and Ge for Q2.
How often do you need to adjust CLEAN? Maybe make that a front panel knob. If so, try C100K.

I do not use the clean at all its a set and forget thing for me.

And i just tried to add silicon in place of Q1 and Q2. Ill be 100% honest here i did not like the way it sounded at all. I think im a GE guy when it comes to FF. 🤷‍♂️

Q2 controls the tone. What was the HFE of the Si trans you used? High HFE translates to more high-order harmonics which sound harsh. Try HFE < 100 (shoot for 60).

I used a SI that had a hfe of 124 which isnt too far from the hfe 112 i had with the GE(Q2). Im going to go grab a SI that has a hFE of 60 for Q2 and update.

I gotta come clean with you guys. Since I posted the OP, I have been so flipping busy with my normal job it's disgusting. I'm actively trying to find a new job amongst all the burnout. I haven't had a chance to breadboard anything or try any of the posted circuits out on my own. That being said, I still want to keep this contest going, although it may take a while for the final results and winners to be announced.

Anyone wanna help me be a judge? lol

If you push the deadline back a bit some of us may yet get it together to join in the fun...just sayin'. ;)

I'm enjoying reading the reports from those who've already jumped in in any case! I'm just slammed right now and have at least 3 jobs I need to get out by week's end, which I'm pretty sure can't and won't quite happen. But all those customers understand that waiting another week or three will likely result in a much better product, so most of the pressure is in my own mind.

Honestly, I started this contest to see what others can do besides populate a prefab circuit board. Not that there's anything wrong with that (I sometimes need that time as a form of therapy TBH). I haven't gotten the level of response to this that I wanted. Oh well - to each his own. If I extend the deadline it may allow others to join in or feed into their procrastination. But I think if someone can't build some kind of prototype they can call your own in a month from now I don't think pushing the deadline out an extra few weeks will make a difference. Like I said earlier, i've been stupid busy with work and only get about 15-20 min a day to just practice scales and stuff just to keep my chops up. If I had the time I would have been more on top of the circuits that have been submitted (some of them are pretty clever just by looking at the schematics). I haven't neglected this at all, but life is just getting in the way and it happens. I mean, for most of us this is just a hobby!

We need our cheerleader and major sponsor @fig to put some life back into this contest!

Roger that. I can defintely post something within that time frame in the spirit of what you're asking for, as nearly everything I do is based on my own designs and especially PCB layouts. At worst I could illustrate how I've been adapting one of my older preamp pedal formats to upright bass and acoustic guitar. My other current diversions all use obsolete/unobtainium parts, so no go there!

Ok final revision,

Meet the fuzz face with attitude

A fuzz face with High and LO pass filters. GATE to add some hair to your chest. The TONE is tied to the HIGH and LO pass filters making the TONE very active. The Switch gives you the option to switch between SI/MOSFET/GE.

Man its fun! Very satisfied as is going to start the board design very soon!

Im having trouble coming up for a name for this Frankenstein of a fuzz.

How 'bout...

"Fuzzsolow"

Not to be confused with Fuzzolo, the trem and fuzz dealio, nor confused with the Vzex Fuzzalo...

I'm back from holidaze, so maybe I can catch up a little here (and I still need to finish my layout from that other contest that ended a long time ago...).

What's this contest about, again?
