What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Some more not pedals: my mini portable dryer stopped working so I took it apart. I successfully fixed it, but in the process I disassembled far more than I needed to. I spent more time reassembling stuff I shouldn't have taken apart than I did fixing what was broken 🤦

I did the same thing this summer and when I put it back together it was worse! Ended up buying a new one.

I feel this. I dropped a vac hose attachment down the lint trap when cleaning mine. I had not unplugged the dryer and when I stood up, my fat thumb hit the go button. Crunchy. I stopped it as quick as I soiled myself and then took the thing apart. I got the vac attachment out and somehow got the damn dryer back together, but she ain’t been the same since then. I paid a technician to check it out and he just sighed and shook his head. Said to me, “well it dries clothes and you can’t make it worse” so I call that a win. It’s ungodly loud. Been about 2 years now. Neighbours love me I’m sure.

Our dryer has a bearing that's out or something, it's HELLA LOUD and shakes harder than a Parkinsons-alcoholic with the DTs.

I want to rip it apart and see what's what, try and fix it, but... I don't want to pull a Harry Klippton, 'cause unlike him and you — I might not get it all back together.

Winter is coming and drying on the clothesline is not an option, IMO.

Yes, winter is coming...

Whole damn interior was full of leaves, cause this is what’s on my “workbench”:

Some black voodoo bad ju-ju going on with it, and alas I'm no mechanic. Might be getting some help from a NHRA racer, though...

Had the same thing happen with our Dryer. Get'r done before it get's too bad or you'll mess up your belt. I went on YT and found a guy take apart a dryer very similar to mine and that made dissemble and assembly easy. Had to order new rollers for the dryer tub as one of them was worn out. Everything else was good and works great now with no noise. It was just a wheel bolted to the side of the back of the dryer.

This, I replaced the rollers, belt and pulley for like 25 bucks thanks to YouTube. Older dryers are easy.

I know, right? In our last house we had a 20-year old washer and dryer and I had those running like champs and they were easy to work on. These new $1,000 doo-dad front-loaders are a pain in the ass and are not made to be worked on easily. The damn things have concrete in them as stabilizers.

I rent a place and the washer and dryer here are ancient but I've rebuilt both. If you can build a pedal you can figure out a washer and dryer and if you get stuck there's a 99% chance there's a YouTube wizard that can walk you through it.

I don't even charge the landlord for it, she's so cool I'm happy to help out and with a little investigation you can generally find parts for little money. I think a rebuild on the dryer including the belt and all pulleys and wheels was less than $60. It went from a concrete mixer to whisper quiet. Which is good because during lockdown I had a few zoom meetings about 50' from the dryer.

It’s funny you should mention that. Building pedals gave me the confidence to do stuff like this.

Nice work, @owlexifry! Been ages since I built an amp and they weren't as nicely done as that.

I bought a new amp recently though, and have been re-working this old multi-effect to use in the effects loop. The original idea was to build something that would let me use a guitar direct to the PA when I didn't have an amp with me, so it was hacked together from either salvaged projects or vero builds, but I like it in the effects loop of the Nomad to open things up a bit and also give me some ambience options for the XRL input.

Currently the order is:
- De Profundis Delay
- Rub-a-dub reverb (has been installed/removed in many spots, hence the solder burns. Shh)
- ROG Tonemender EQ (not sure why I put this after the delay/verb, but it lets me clean up the overall signal, so I'll leave it for now)
- Cab Sim (can't remember which one this is, but I recall trying a few simple ones at the time and liked it the best)

Total rat's nest and I probably won't use the cab sim much, but left it there, just in case I go back to the original purpose.

(Also don't like the labelling, as it was done years ago and I've got better techniques now, but can't be bothered to strip it all.)
