Rat Circuit Recommendation?

The only one I ever built or played was the GPCB one. I think the correct chip was easily available back when I built it. I’m sure there are better options from PPCB!

Yeah, I know Robert is having a sale, and I'm hoping somebody can recommend a pcb for me to buy.

Go with the standard. I’m sure someone can hook you up with a 308, but I recommend socketing the IC and trying a few out. TL072 sounds pretty good in a Rat…

Ok, but what is the standard -- that's what I am looking for. I can find the right Op Amps, etc, but I need to know which PCB to buy?

Edit: I only have until 3/31/24 to get the discount. Please tell me what I need to buy..

I keep seeing persons saying this. Do you mean a 071?
Need a single die unless you're modding the layout or using an adapter.
If you swapped to a tl072 in a rat and it worked, it's probably a counterfeit lm386 or other 2cent single opamp.

Ok, there's a huge difference between an 072 and a 386. I have legit 071s, 072s and 386s, which one should I be using in this circuit?

Use whatever sounds good but it needs to be a single(071) opamp if the board was layed out for a 308. Duals won't work(072)
Just like to keep these things clear so anyone starting out isn't misled.
Can leave out the comp cap if not using a 308 as well

  1. Muroidea - Classic Rat. The biggest differences between ProCo's versions is the clipping diodes. The Turbo has a few other changes, though they're not as critical as the LEDs
  2. Triad Distortion - Classic Rat, with clipping switch on board. Tone knob works reverse from the traditional Rat. I prefer the knob layout of this board
  3. Frajeelay - Classic Rat with clean blend, bass contour, and clipping switch
  4. Pandora's Box - Rat with a picking dynamic sensitive gain arrangement
  5. Dingo - VFE take on the Rat - variant not a clone. Can get incredibly close to traditional tones, and does a ton more
  6. Parentheses - Rat with a blendable Green Ringer on the input and a SHO at the output
  7. Pumbaa - (most of a)Rat with a SHO on the input
  8. Hen's Tooth - Ibanez take on the Rat
  9. Cyborg - Rat with a fixed wah at the input
  10. Cannon Fodder Mk1 - Caroline's take on the Rat. A little fatter and spongier, with a Ruetz variant built in, and a sorta fun oscillation feature

Any common single op-amp will work. Some may need the compensation capacitor adjusted, some will not need it at all

Thank you for this...

I have been trying to figure this out for weeks.... This is exactly what I was trying to figure out.

My suggestion would be start with the Triad, as it's got the clipping switch built in, so you can get 2-3 flavors in one go, and then go from there.

The Muroidea board is cheaper, if you're comfortable adding a toggle off-board

I think I just bought the Muroidea. And yeah, I'm comfortable adding toggle -- where can I find a schematic/mod for that?

I had no idea the series 3 was a rat!
