What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I had a few new records come in this week:

Sanford Clark

Jimmy Carter and Dallas County Greens

And a couple of 7" as well:

Mike Watt/Papa M

A. Savage (got this one from his show last week, which was amazing)

I should have something completely ostentatious/ridiculous to share at the end of this week 🤞

My new bench/desk guitar arrived with candy (Sweetwater)

I had been considering a Strandberg bass before I got the Dingwall so when I was thinking about getting something more small and desk friendly than my 28 5/8” baritone tele - Strandberg came to mind. It feels like a jet fighter under the fingers :)

Plays great. I’ve wanted a 7 string for a long time. Almost all of them are too “metal” for me. This is right up my alley. It can get thick tones and twangy tones, sounds great.

The controls are pretty unique: The rotary switch is a 6 position pickup selector. The top switch bypasses the pickup selector and turns on all pickups. The bottom switch is a coil tap for the bridge pickup. Then there's the concentric knobs for vol/tone.

Just got this new case tonight. UPS is always really late in my hood. Real tweed, not vinyl. Stainless steel brass plated hardware. Thick and plush. Surprisingly light for real wood frame. About $138 on eBay, but I got a 5% discount by putting it in my watchlist and not buying it right away.

This was going to be for the clone Elvis Electric/Acoustic I'm expecting on Wednesday. But then I noticed how perfect my Fartin D45 [fake martin] fit. Btw, the Fartin is the best guitar I've ever played in my life. It's like I can't make a mistake when I play it. Crazy. It's better than my REAL Martin 20 year old D28e. Better. Not as good, but better.

I removed the screws that held the electric controls in place, and looked at the wood. It is real wood, not plywood. The grain on the inside of the back also matches the grain on the back side. Ditto with the front which I could see through the panel hole.

EDITED: LadyBug jumped on top of the case and her razor sharp toenails ripped a small hole in the top, it is NOT real TWEED. It's vinyl, but the best imitation tweed I've ever seen. You can feel texture with your fingers. I would have sworn it was real tweed.......

But I digress, back to the new case:

Notice *real* tweed! I was actually quite surprised when I touched it and it wasn't vinyl....

Now "Elvis" will need a new case lol... Notice the wound magnet pickup and volume knobs. Piezoelectric didn't exist yet. I think.

Did you panelize it yourself or did the PCB vendor do it for you? I do lots of little breakout boards and need to give this a shot as well.
I did it myself with the KiKit KiCad plugin. Tried lots of different variations, but this worked out the best with my limited experience with the plugin. In originally wanted to use V-cuts, but it just wasn’t working for some reason.

I'm lazy, I let JLC do my panelizing for me. They pretty much only do v-cuts for rectangular stuff, I stopped panelizing my circular boards because I don't like mousebites and you can't really-cut round stuff.

I’ll try their service sometime too. Do they charge to do it?
