Your best and worst pedal hot takes? 🔥

There was a Gawlf store in HK's Macau-ferry terminal that had been going out of business for about 23+ years when I left, so they're still going out of business. For all I know they're selling grey-market Pings (or fakes) back to the Mainlanders, and whatever other booteek-brands gawlfers like.

CLOWN SHOES (enclosures) for itty-bitty circuits, like a 1590XX with a Bazz-Fuss inside it and a stupidly…

Little 9mm trimmer-pots that self-destruct on the PCB...

JUST USE REGULAR 9mm POTS WITH METAL SHAFTS & THREADED COLLARS, for SS,
WITH SMALL KNOBS!

While this might sound like gatekeeping:

  • Pedal building is not for everyone. If you can't be bothered to research some basic things on your own (where to get parts, how do vero layouts work, what parts do I need, ...), can't be arsed to put some effort into soldering, constantly run into issues with your build that can be traced back to your sloppiness and and won't even provide the bare minimum of information and pictures when asking for help, find something else to sink your money, your time and our time into.
  • WhAt tO bUiLd? More common in Facebook groups, but if you don't know what pedal to build (or buy) for your applications, don't bother. Spend your money and time on something you actually need.

This should be a sticky

It's OK to be wrong.
For anything clean yes, for clipping hell no.
Oh believe me, I'm beyond accustomed to being wrong...in fact I'd say I'm comfy with it. Still, it's nice we both agree that it's a dope IC in at least some capacity :)

To be fair, I could have been more clear regarding the audience I was primarily focusing on with my little hot take there. I don't have a problem with people not liking anything I like at at all in any sphere of my life; what irks me are people who get palpably upset (for reasons I don't completely understand) at those of us who happen to like and speak highly off "certain types" of components and/or go out of their way to not like them simply because they're "over hyped" or "mojo" or (insert another cringe worthy buzz word here).

In nutshell, I can totally understand why not everyone is so "blown away" when they hear an OPA2134 that they can't wait to fork over $5 for one. But anyone who says they don't sound good in at least some capacity is probably a liar who hates them for the silly reasons I mentioned above.

To each their own and all that..and I can understand not being able to justify the cost. Thinking they're overpriced or not good for certain applications are both totally understandable reasons to take a pass on them. But to say they're not dope in some regard just doesn't seem genuine to me. I mean, I think Ferraris are overpriced and stylistically they are not my cup of tea, not to mention the fact they are clearly a poor vehicle choice for a myriad of situations. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be a hater on the fact that they're undeniably dope in other ways and give credit where it's due.
