NPD - JHS Hard Drive

Having watched only the start of the video, what is it based on? 👀

Edit: Right, SM-7 Smash Box, sounds like an op-amp with hard clipping. It sounded really close to the RAT, DS-1, BE-OD and Tight Metal, when dialed in to specific settings, and I hated all of those tones. Sooooo... Not really interested in a clone even at all.

And I don't think Josh can play metal at all, those tones suck for anything heavier than hair metal.

All of the tones from the Hard Drive sounded the same. When they did the comparison with the other pedals, it was more like they got a Rat, DS-1, BE-OD and Tight Metal to sound like the Hard Drive instead of the other way around. I haven't seen demos from anyone else, maybe it's due to the mixing for the video, but so far it's pretty lackluster.

That's a good point too. But tbh if it's a hard clipping distortion with a parametric mid frequency, that's a solid pedal right there. Nothing amazingly innovative, but it should be pretty good.

holy guacamole.
i normally enjoy these sort of JHS videos (dons flamesuit), the cheese is usually entertaining enough on a train ride to work, but listening to josh reference 'metal' in this context - it's beyond cringe. secondhand embarrassment stuff.
usually pretty indifferent about whatever circuit he's peddling, but this time i'm baffled at how much of a disservice his demos have done to the circuit. he made it sound terrible in every one of his 'contexts'.

The demo from Fluff is pretty good and a tiny bit less biased.

yep. this actually sounded pretty good.

i'm sure its not actually as bad as JHS made it sound..

edit:
yes, SDS makes everything sound good, but this demo seems a little more promising.
(still get the impression its a bit farty/flubby, but i get that with a lot of high gain amps, and that's what overdrives are for)

Yeah, these demos sound sooo much better. Even 60 Cycle Hum made it sound better than the JHS demo.

Great, another JHS release. Time to step into my hazmat suit and enter the thread.

Just kidding. The JHS demo was underwhelming, but the others sound cool. It's kind of ugly, but in a good way, like the HM-2. I could see myself using this (though not for metal) and would love to build it.

I don't think so.

First thing that came to mind was Compaq, but not the vertical drives...

Rather the Compaq II

Perhaps more like an early IBM luggable...

Nawww...

I'm gonna go with my first instinct, the Compaq II in the middle.
