What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

After receiving a large shipment of knobs from Parts Express that were thrown into a bag and free to scratch each other to death during shipping, I reached out to the knob manufacturer directly. They set me up with wholesale pricing and I had 250 knobs on my doorstep THE NEXT DAY.

Not only that, they packaged them for war, the apocalypse, and hell and back.

We're talking reinforced edges people!!! 20 pounds of knobs that didn't have a mark on em. Shout out Penn Elcom. They know how to rectify a situation!

Did you send the old ones back? Nice knobs by the way.

Not in the mailbox but figured I'd share.
In case you have heard, all Sam Ash stores are closing. As much as this bums me out, it did allow me to score a perpetual protocols studio license for 40% off!
Excited to get back into bed with Avid, for now.

Sorry for flaunting my functional appendages @Harry Klippton
Get well soon.
So a year of free updates and support, but what happens after a year? Do you have to put another nickle in the jukebox for it to keep working? Or do the free updates just stop and they tell you to hose off if you need help?

It all sounds so expensive to a retired 68 year old that just wants to putz around with DAW for personal satisfaction....

Is there a senior citizen hobby version?

Another nickel in the jukebox baby, I met Joan Jet in all places the Alpha Beta in Sylmar CA about 33 years ago. We had a good long discussion and she started smiling and looking at my left finger which didn't have a wedding ring. I HAD TO TELL HER I WAS MARRIED AND LOYAL. "The good ones are always taken" she said

Kicking myself in the ass about a million times since then....

A stash of dual "Millenium Bypass 2" boards, basically. Because using 4PDT switches for stereo allows no LEDs. These are going to make my life a whole lot easier! (Available on Reverb)

Only twelve needed for my currently thought-out builds, so plenty of room for even more of my autistically convoluted ideas.

There's a Artist version, limited to 32 audio tracks, that is $200 for the perpetual, $69 for the upgrade.
The Studio upgrade is $199, currently.
Thankfully, Avid reversed course on it's subscription only model.
A lot of studios get a new and working DAW and ride it for years without an upgrade. My hope is to be set for 8 or so years with the current version. The 1 year of upgrades will put me in the window of Apples 4th gen M processors, so about $2k all in. Or ~$200-250 per year of use.

But for someone wanting to dabble and noodle, that's not the way to go. I've been debating getting back into PT(my last version was PT8 from 2008!) or sucking it up and transitioning to something else. But, I *know* PT. I don't have to relearn(as much).
I think the best DAW for someone starting out, especially if they're coming from a analog/FOH type background, is Harrison Mixbus
It's $30, has a great logical UI that is both workflow friendly and familiar(it can function as a mouse controlled mixer, basically)

Hope that arm heals up quick!
You should see his Weiner☠️🪦🥀
