RUSH IS BACK!

I'm not really looking at this as Rush tbh. Last tour I saw was Clockwork Angels. I'm looking at it as the rest of Rush getting itchy and wanting to get out and have fun again. There's gonna be haters. I wouldn't even mind if they played a tune or two from Geddy's solo album (although Alex is no Ben Mink, and Ben is no Alex). Some guests would be fun. Maybe Aimee Mann or even the folks from Envy of None.

They certainly don't need the money, so I don't see that being of any motivation.

Mostly, as I watch 300 troops pull into Chicago to "fix" things I'm braced for impact and it's nice to have anything remotely comforting on the horizon.

I’d be down with something from Victor— just not that one really awful cringey “Don’t Care”

it just feels weird to continue being Rush and playing the same songs when such a big part of who the band was is gone.
I believe a big part of it is that it was always Alex and Geddy, back when they were in school, and Neil came along later on. Their childhood bond is what keeps them together today. It is certainly weird to think of Rush without Peart, as he is such a big piece of their puzzle, but on the other hand I want to see my heroes who are still alive doing what they love. And I'm excited to see what the new drummer puts into the songs. Neil has quite a wide vocabulary and I want to see if she plays the songs verbatim and what she adds or omits.

Its kinda like what if your wife tragically dies from cancer, do you move on and remarry or mourn her for the rest of your life? Maybe reinventing yourself is the way forward..

My dad got 2 tix for Saturday 8/01. Halfway up section 211 for $250 each after fees. The fees were $90 on each one- of course it is ticketbastard so that’s to be expected.

I was in queue for Thursday 7/30 but 40 minutes after sale started still had 30k people ahead of me. Started at ~74k, and I entered the waiting room at 11:31

I don't think you can call it a Rush tour without Peart, but I do believe Geddy and Alex should be able to go on touring and playing the music.
Just maybe modify the name to some extent.

Nah... bands are always changing lineups and the name goes to whomever owns it. Sure it won't be the same without Peart, but even he had a predecessor.

Ironic Madden's gone through some drummer kerfuffle-shuffle of late (should they have changed the band name to Ironic Damsel?), as has Dream-on Theatre — it's all part of the biz.

Should ZZTOP be renamed ZZelTopwood?

Metallicka kicked out the Megadearth-dude...

Sydd Barrett Falloyd...

Are the Stones not the Rolling Stones still? Mick Taylor's gone. Who the hell is this new guy? Ronnie Wood? Where'd Wyman Go? Watt happened to the drummer's throne — who sits there now?

Who are Daltry & Townsend? Should they still call themselves The Who without Moon and Entwistle or just Daltry and Townsend?

What of Godley & Cream? Why not carry on as 10cc?

Which version of Thin Lizzy is "Thin Lizzy"? The version with Gary Moore or Eric Bell? Should Scott Gorham have continued to tour as Thin Lizzy without its iconic frontman/bass-player? With the revolving door of guitarists, for me Thin Lizzy was/is Phil Lynott. Thereafter Thin Lizzy continued on for a wee bit in various iterations of past and new members.

Rush is Peart, Lee and Lifeson — no way around it, but the show and remaining members' lives must go on.

Here's an idearooniki... Have three hour-long sets to each show with a guest drummer for each set...

"RUSH HOUR"

Rush has been my de facto favourite band for my whole life, and growing up in Nova Scotia, I was damned lucky to see them twice when they came to Halifax in 2013. I still have the shirt from that tour and guard it closely, knowing that I'll never get a chance to get another like it. Rush is one of the bands that helped enlighten my awe-inspired relationship with music on the whole, and one of many bonding points with both my parents, especially with my dad. I was devastated when Neil died, like I'm sure a lot of us were.
The first I heard of this was from a childhood friend, who I hadn't talked to in at least 10 years, messaging me out of the blue to tell me he saw the news and thought of me immediately. Rush itself aside, the volumes that speaks about the way we all connect through music is staggering.

I'm not optimistic about being able to get tickets affordably or in a timely fashion, but I want to go. It's beautiful, bittersweet, and humble that they make a point of saying that one of the most important things about this to them is being able to tribute Neil every night. For me, this rocks. Yes, it's not "really Rush" without Neil, but I'd still love to see a bunch of exemplary musicians, who are also great people and great friends, get to keep doing what they love. Not sure how that wouldn't be enjoyable.

what it comes down to for me, as someone who doesn’t really listen to Rush but appreciates them…it’s just a couple old buddies kickin the can around again. Also they certainly picked a hell of a drummer, holy smokes she is amazing.
