What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Holy! More holy! Three times holy! Now my trilogy of Dave Smith's finest releases outside of the Sequential brand (Evolver, Tempest, Prophet 12) is complete. Very happy to have learned to buy things like synths via the online second-hand marketplace in Germany, this time with amusing English/German back and forth communication. There's simply more competition in such a large country compared to the Netherlands, which means much better prices. Shipping was only 30,- And this one's even cheaper because of the heavily yellowed keys, but as a DIYer that's no problem. because...

I intend to remove the keybed and do a little dremel grinding and folding the steel back into itself to turn it into the desktop unit it should have been. At least, that's the idea I'm putting on the backburner for a while. Will have to find out first if I can touch up the inevitable cracks in the powdercoating well enough to bother. Otherwise, a piece of powdercoated steel will have to be purchased. Enough to think about / to keep me off the streets. 🙈 See image below of the official dekstop version. Yeah, that unit was never an option.

Does Dave Smith still have the "KFO" badges inside his keyboards? I had a friend that I went to high school with that worked for Dave when the Prophet 5 first was released. This is '79, '80. He was telling the keyboards had labels that said "KFO". Meaning KEEP the FUCK OUT! Haha

I didn't notice that one right away when peeking inside. Dave's face is printed on the main board though! Let me take a closer look tomorrow.

(Sidenote: Some manufacturers go out of their way to add a "no servicable parts inside" text on their device. Fucking lies! Can't count the amount of devices anymore where II either cut the led out, or added a resistor to dim those fucking floodlights. This, but indoors:)

This showed up today. I needed a power supply and was thinking of building one. I can’t beat 8 “isolated?” outputs for $16+ tax. Only downside is you get the USB-C to USB cable, but you have to supply your own 5V/2A. Oh well, have plenty of those around
