Here’s some recent finds. I’ve grown quite fond of the older Japanese tubes as well. Extremely underrated imo.My apologies if I’ve posted any of these in the past.

Part of me is jelly, but then I remind myself I am not a vacuum tube collector (or a Soviet germanium transistor collector lol).

I do have a small inventory so I can roll for specific amps or preamps. I’m hoping after I finish my queue (two amps, one preamp) and prospective projects (herzog, soldano surfbox, Jose preamp) I can put my vacuum tube projects to bed for a bit. I need to make some music!

Anyway, such a lovely collection!!!
I stumbled into it while trying to find good EF86s for my amp. I got lucky on my first couple of auctions where I one really good tubes for extremely cheap that tested good. Certainly had no intentions. I consider it more of a hobby lol. Surprisingly I’ve gotten better. I’m to the point where I just look for very rare tubes.

Got these in today. I don’t like them in my Bad Cat Cub 40R. They seem too have a lot of presence or either a high mid hump at the same or similar frequencies than the amp or speaker. I like them clean…break up quickly but don’t care for them with dirt. I like the new Mullard, EHX, Svetlanas and JJs over these. Atleast in that amp. Probably for sale if anyone wants them. They’re matched for current and tc from Tonal Tubes

I have a set of those. From what I've read it seems they do better in Marshall style amps. They were in my Frenzel for a while and I didn't like them as much at the KT77's I was trying at the same time.

New one and only. Kinda what I would imagine 70s Fender wide-range humbuckers to be: lots of chime and sustain, but also output. Brash on the bridge, articulate and clear on the neck. Took me forever to get an even slightly different-sounding middle. Push-pull volume pots split into twangy single coils. And theoretically many different tonal combinations in middle selector, but not distinct enough for me to be excited about.

I dig the thicc, slightly-off SG look. I like the LTD offset aesthetics better, but this one is too solid and versatile a guitar. Compensated bridge, open gear tuners, neck is verging on shredder thin, but still somehow feels substantial. Light, comfortable, and well balanced. The color is much more purple in person. It's really nice looking.

Very fun

I have one Polara Deluxe and it’s an awesome guitar! Congrats 🎉

84HP rails and bracket ears to house some new synth modules which need homes. In the foreground, new chips from Electric Druid in Portugal, comprising one Alfa 3310 ADSR (for GGS envelope generator), one StompLFO, and two One-Shot event generators.

These are (slightly quirky) LFOs which can produce the following ping waveforms: sine and inverted sine, cosine, log up and down, ramp up and down, and unidirectional exponential between 50 milliseconds and 2.5 seconds, with an echo feature for good measure. I aim to use these to trigger percussion samples at this stage but I'll breadboard one for testing before committing to permanent breadboard. They might be fun to use with pitched elements (marimbas and so on) as well, I suspect.

The StompLFO chip is a full-featured LFO with square, triangle, sine, sweep, bidirectional ramps, and two random waveforms available. I'm planning to build this standalone so that it can plug in to modified stomps or modular systems, turning an unassuming chorus or similar into a vehicle for unbridled sonic mayhem.

Trust all of you are managing ok with the brutal weather as reported, not to mention everything else...

Got a belated birthday gift in the mail today…

Rivolta Mondata baritone.

I have to say it looks much prettier in person. I really like the color. I had to fix the intonation for the low B but besides that it plays pretty well out of the box. Let’s see how it settles. The four switches are something to get used to. There is one switch for each pickup and then one for splitting the humbucker and one to put the pickups out of phase. I’m digging it. Maybe I’ll record a short demo over the weekend.
