What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I remember being interested in this one from the demos. How is it IRL?!?
After researching several of the larger box delays, I went with this one for the remote control flexibility and the size. I bought this one used with the PS and the box for ~$400.

I did a quick smoke test to validate functionality and then put it on my board. I have a jam tonight so I can give it a test drive.

It sounds great (it better 😆). The Hi Cut / Lo Cut filters are nice and useful, but I would have liked a way to set a sharper Q. The time knob is 40-1100ms, but with the fine tune buttons you can go down to 17ms and get flangey metal pipe sounds, or all the way up to 2000ms and get aliasing noise. I really like having a tap tempo on an analog delay.

My main oversight was the expression control. I use the treadle on my XS-100 as the expression control for my board. The boss pedals I have only go up to CC95 in the config menu, and the suhr has expression fixed at CC100. So I need a device to map it, or output an analog signal for the exp input.

Wonder how it compares to the big Boss analog delay? I have the DD-200 and like its functionality. It, along with a DMM I’m set for delay. However there’s usually a 3rd on the board lol.

That all sounds amazing! How’s the tone like? Is it similar to a DMM or a Carbon Copy?

Oooooooo, I'm interested in hearing about this. It's one of the few commercial delays I'm interested in
I wanted a delay that could also be used to control a MIDI setup. For a while I thought I would get a DD-500.

I always admired the Suhr delay, but it seemed pricey. Before I purchased a DD-500, the Discovery came to mind and I read the manual again. I found a good price on a used one and I’m glad I went with it. The DD-500 is more of a time-based sound design platform, while the Discovery feels more like an instrument, and still has a lot of digital control.

There’s a few cool things you can do at extreme settings. Turn the time down to 17ms and the mix full wet. Then use it like a preamp- bass cut, treble cut. It adds a touch of that, dare I say, warm tone? 🤓 You can also add vibrato or chorus sounds with the modulation, and dialing the dry line back in. At the other extreme, at 2000ms I set the repeats high and used it like a looper pedal, layering phrases. It’s surprisingly versatile for how simple it looks.

Been interested in this ugly ass pedal with stupid control names. Programmable analog dirt pedal with 10 presets and mapping over 128 PC messages. There were six left, now there’s five

Looks fun. If they wanted people to pay $270 for it they shouldn't have put $99 pedal knobs on it.
