Small Bear shutting down

I’m quite surprised he hasn’t sold it. Surely that would mean he would have a more comfortable retirement.

😂 Only thing I'll grieve is the loss of knowledge from the website. More often than not I would browse parts to learn what was npn or pnp or alternative ICs. I learned how to bread board because if their site and learned A LOT about fuzz circuits and transistors. That's the real loss in all of this
Do you think it would be worth archiving to any extent?

Might be worthwhile asking for some help from the folks in r/datahoarder on Reddit. Those guys archive stuff like this just for fun, and they probably would know the most efficient way of maintaining the most relevant information

Happy day. Order has shipped.
Pretty much got two of each. Sadly, half will end up on a shelf collecting dust. But if I ever retire I will have some tasty transistors to utilize. Also picked up a tester form AMZ. Should be a fun weekend.

Got my order in today, and reorganized the desk while I was putting everything away.

One thing I was most happy about getting was a few more 125B light plates. On that topic— now that small bear is closing up shop, anyone know where to get the light plates now? I make my own for certain things where I can just file the flange off of the bottom plate, but for a 1590DD for example (which was unfortunately sold out already when I placed my order) you really need the recess milled into it for the flange of the lid to fit into.

Thanks! That’s definitely good to know. Unfortunately they only have 1590B and BB sizes there— none of the 125B, 1590A, DD, or XX sizes. Next time I order there I’ll definitely get a few more BB plates though

I’m jealous how much workspace you have. Then again, this is what it looks like when it’s clean. While working I only have about 1/4 the real estate to work with.

@Bricksnbeatles nice workspace! We just painted our basement floor and I’ll be moving my stuff back in soon and building another bench.

I am curious about your parts organizers. Are either from Harbor Freight?

The 4x9 organizer was a deal of the day I got on Amazon a few years ago for a really good price. I think the 8x8 was from a company my dad used to work for— it was an unopened one they had laying around as a backup for the server room, but then they closed the physical offices and his boss told him he could take that home since it was going in the trash otherwise. The 3x3 wooden one on top of that was $5 at a garage sale. I need another one for capacitors though, and I’m probably gonna get the harbor freight one since my uncle has one for screws and says it’s pretty solid for the price

Dammit. Grab boxes sold out in less than 20 seconds. I was refreshing the page constantly, and they went live 15 seconds past 12:02, got it in my cart and tried checking out, and in the time it took to literally just hit the PayPal button and checkout (already logged in, so it was quick) it couldn’t process my order bc they were already sold out, and that was ~12:02:48
