Shamed for using white nylon washers? I found the perfect replacement

When I started building I thought they (white washers) looked cool. Analogman uses them, JhS uses them, I tried a few different anodized dress nuts and liked the way those looked and moved away from the white washers.
But, with all Pooh Pooh on white washers recently I have started disliking them. Which sort of sucks that peer pressure and name calling had shifted my opinion. But in a good way, it shined a light on the fact that I build what I like for myself, I don’t build to impress people. The key is knowing the difference. Now if I do a build and the white washer looks cool I’ll rock it. But until I run out of my bag of aluminum dress nuts that won’t be for a bit.

I have some of those colored dress nuts coming, and I know what you mean about the shaming. Not sure if I'll be using my giant shiny washers much, but I'll surely use a few of them.

Back in the day I thought that the white washers were a sign that you were making modern pedals with a 3PDT and true bypass and had graduated from using junction boxes. Spotting a washer was a sign that you were bridging the gap between a DIY-er and the big guys.

I still like them just fine but after being away from building for several years, I see that there are so many different options and levels of bling.

Nice- those look really tough. Are those local to you, or have you got a link?

I never really dug the white washers myself, so starting out I would 3d-print black carbon fiber ones that I thought were pretty neat:

I prefer the small metal ones that LMS starter carrying though, so I use those on all my more recent builds and I've swapped out a few old black ones also:

Local, I just looked for "M12 washer" on eBay, didn't worry about the size. I'm sure they're widely available. EDIT M12 means 12mm, which fits standard stompbox footswitches because the hole is actually closer to 13mm.

Very cool, whole pedal looks great.

I've ordered some washers through AliExpress that are more sensibly sized. I have a couple of bags of footswitches from various sources, some have thin metal washers, some have fat white plastic - I think they're some variety of nylon. It'll probably be a month or more before any new PCBs get to me so I won't be needing replacement washers for a while anyway.

I love chunky metal washers. I use them on my toggles. I have to admit that my older builds with white plastic washers make me feel cheap.

Yep the standard metric washer size (iso 7089) for M12 is 13mm id, 23-24mm od, 2.5mm thick. Unless you go out of your way to find a smaller outer diameter M12 washer these dimensions are what you’re gonna get.

I haven’t dug into it too much because I have a bag of like 100 from random places but I believe the LMS metal washers are DIN 988 “metric shim washers” in either 12×18 or 13×19

M12x16mm (ID x OD) 0.3mm thick is what I ordered from Ali, they should be a pretty good match for the standard footswitch washers.
