I used to be a guitar player. Now I’m a pedal/circuit builder. Once I build something I really like I go back to being a guitar player. The cycle never ends…

I don't find them to be mutually exclusive. These days, I'm playing more music than building pedals, but that's not always the case. I could foresee a day where I don't build pedals anymore but not a day I don't play music

I have always played guitar/bass, but not always used pedals. I don’t play as much as I used to and use pedals to get the creative juices flowing. Plus I do love the challenge of taking a handful of parts and making something functional (usually). @jimilee as a wise and completely unbiased guitar store employee

I’m a builder who plays guitar to check his pedals out. I used to be a player. I never used any effects when playing live except the reverb that was built into my amp (5150). I pretty much quit playing when I moved 18 years ago and started to pick it up when I got interested in pedal building a couple years ago. I like building electronic stuff so naturally started messing with pedal circuits and amps. My wife says I’m a professional gear collector now.

I’m probably more of a tone chaser, just behind every tweak of a knob, flick of a switch, under that next stomp lies the glorious tone that would make you sound like a golden god of guitar... “you can build better sounding pedals and amp than you can buy”. Oh there is always fee cheese in a mouse trap isn’t there? And yet knowing this I continue... why? Because it’s fun.
I mostly build pedals when I have writer's block on the music front. That usually breaks the spell, and then new pedal usually provides some sort of inspiration. My workbench has my DAW/studio right next to my Solder station. I recently just went on a build bender, so now I am taking a break and shifting back to writing new tunes......but my shipment from God City has just arrived.

Sometimes I look at my guitar while I'm building. I keep a test clip stored on my looper so I don't even play the guitar when I test pedals I build 
But frankly I started building pedals because I suck at the guitar but still wanted to be in the "scene."

I too, find myself playing more guitar lately, but mostly acoustic, it seems to be what prevails at the open mic's here in Appalachia, I figure if my acoustic chops are solid it may lead me to find some electric minded folks, mind you I do crank the Marshall or the TRRI on occasion still, you gotta stay in touch with your electric feel as well!

Do you have snow in the weekend forecast by chance?
I carry a harmonica in my pocket, just in case someone breaks in but happens to play bluegrass. Naw, but I do blow some tunes for the dog. She's nearly deaf so it doesn't bother her much.
