@ragamuffin do you have an audio probe? at this point I don't think you'll solve it without. They're easy to build.

This pedal is basically a clone of the TC Elec Spark Boost. From what I can gather, Iommi was apparently a Spark Boost user (according the TC web site), and somehow Laney got Iommi to endorse their clone of it. It's definitely not an amp simulator, but it is a nice boost pedal.

Which demos? A lot of those are probably using an amp on the edge and using Mach 1 to push it over (i.e. getting gain from the amp by boosting with the mach 1). It's not a high gain drive. Do you have a clip of what you're getting?

did you sub something else in for bc549c? That pinout is different from many 2nXXXX subsitutes and will mess with you (speaking from experience).

From the schematic it's like a big muff with the clipping diodes removed.

I say a tubescreamer. The most hated pedal that every other pedal is based on. How can you know you don't like tubescreamers unless you have one? It's a rite of passage.

Agree with all the stuff you said but this point I'm not sure of. I think most people don't know or care what an Electra distortion is, nor do they shop specifically for one. Lovepedal has a lot of success at selling these circuits at high prices, and from what I gather on mainstream guitar...

Those cost more than the current Lumbergs.
