I got it working Coda.... I likely damaged the pad from VCC to the zener.. Ran a short lead from a resistor to the diode and all is well..

I'm sure your right about the odds of two in a row being bad... I did in fact feel a bit of resistance getting those leads in the hole... i bet I ripped both the traces.. it soldered up fine..... would make sense because both were bad in the same spot...

I have the first board I can try to clean up and post a pic… definitely weird.., but you could be right.. The zener I used does have a very tight fit on the pcb… I could have damaged the through plating installing both of them 🤷‍♂️

Solved…. I think others need to check their PCBs because both of my PCBs have a dead trace between R12 and the D2 diode.. Ran a pice of lead straight to the D2 diode and it works now.

R12 4.5 volts R14 0 volts D2 5.1 zener 0 volts C6 4.5 volts on pin 1

I'll do some voltage checking in a bit on it... had the exact same issue with the other board as well...

At my wits end with 2nd attempt… built completely stock specs basically Q3 is NPN MP38 70 hfe with about 200 leakage Used a 5.1 V zener I’m getting about 4.2 at Q1 collector I’m getting about 3.6 at Q2 collector I’m getting zero voltage at Q3 collector I’m not getting voltage at the zener...

Ahhhh..... Well that's a different story... if it just shows R1, C1 D1 kinda stuff it's probably pretty important to have a build doc... I dont think I even have a pedalpcb board on hand out of over 120 different pcbs in possession that doesn't have values printed on them?

Maybe it's just me but I'm pretty sure I've never used a build doc to build out a pedalpcb project.... Especially if it's just a straight up build with no specialty decommissioned submarine parts. I will on occasion use a drill template if it has something crazy with a lot of knobs and switches..

I will literally buy a different pedal of the same type of effect if it has side mounted jacks.... Top mounts are just so much better..

Built several variants and have never cared for them with my setup... I'll have a kot on my board for a hot minute but it always leaves.... I've built a few glory holes and I never liked any of them.... mostly because every one of them I built has zero headroom... to get unity gain it is...
