    Creamery Compressor Troubleshooting

Finished building out three of the Creamery Compressors and they all perform differently. One works as I suspect it ought to. The other two have different control (pots) issues. In one, the Compression pot seems to do nothing, the Level (volume?) seems quite weak, and the Attack really kicks...

OptoComp (GPCB Squishy Octopus - DOD 280 clone)

Nice optical compressor circuit from GuitarPCB, their "Squishy Octopus" board (DOD 280 Compressor clone). As it says on the label "squishy"! I'm guessing it's the reactance timing of the optic coupler.

    Headphone Amp with Reverb

Just finished up a custom PPCB combo build for my grandson. Using PPCB's Heaphne Amp and their Gravitation Reverb boards, I put together this nice little unit so he could practice without disturbing his neighbors. The 'Stereo Spread' is a nice feature and WOW does it get loud. The added reverb...

When is a Pedal Build a 3-D Jigsaw Puzzle?

Every time! Here are two PedalPCB "Sunn-T" builds using TO-92 J201s biased at 5.0V on their respective Drains. Detailed planning & wire weaving is crucial . . . . Sunn-T for the 70's-80's win!

    SSM2166 Compressor (with mods)

Messed about with an SSM2166 and came up with this configuration. Just using two pots, but added two more stomps. The pots are Sustain (compression) and Boost (volume). The Sustain and Boost stomps are wired in such fashion as to jumper the 2nd lug on each of the pots to jump immediately to max...

    Milkbox Compressor (Creamery Compressor)

A bit subtle for my tastes, but an easy build with a nice range of compression controls.

    Sea Horse Machine

This turned out to be quite different from what I was expecting from a PT2399 chip. Lotsa fun with this after the build. A no-fuss build.

    Q P Fuzz 3.14 (Kewpie Fuzz)

    A sweet BMP-like sounding circuit . . . . the Q P Fuzz (PPCB Kewpie Fuzz). Another no-fuss build.

Honey Dripper +: a Modified 70's Dipthinizer Circuit

4 years ago I procured a couple MadBean 2015 "Honey Dripper" (Colorsound Dipthonizer) PCBs for a custom commission request and got it built out with the requested modifications. This is a sweet, versitile auto-wah sort of circuit from the 70's. Instead of a single, fixed filter, it has a...

Rockman Acoustic Guitar Pedal clone (Dunlop version)

After meticulous tracing both the Rockman (SR&D - gray button) Acoustic Guitar Pedal and the Dunlop Acoustic Guitar Pedal (blue button), and all the heavy lifting in KiCAD for PCB layout work from @rwl, we've accomplished a working PCB for this oldie goldie. We went with the Dunlop blue button...

    "STORM" Closed Circuit Booster Limiter

Another nice surprise from @Robert. The "Closed Circuit Booster Limiter". Who knew such a great utility pedal existed? Not me. Anyway, here's my build out of it.

FETamine HCL Fuzz ~900mg (Nein Fuzz)

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound of the Nein Fuzz and intrigued by its use of JFETs. So I built it out and enclosed it in a decent wrapper. I did do some pre-measuring of the JFETs to target close to what was spec'd in the build docs. I went with anything was within ±5% of the specs.

The Ratstortion (Modified Kokko Distortion clone)

After finding the Kokko Distortion schematic, I traced the Kokko unit I had to check if the one I found is correct. My tracing matched the found schematic perfectly. But when I breadboarded it, it didn't sound like the original. I repeated the breadboarding a few times to be sure I was doing it...

    nuTUBE SCREAMER (NuTube OD)

I already have a Vox NuTube amp and thought I'd eventually build a NuTube OD Screamer. I wanted it a bit different in that I wanted to expose the grid section of the NuTube device. It gets a nice glow when powered up. I musta measured 37 times for every possible way to mount the NuTube device so...

1µF Box Film Capacitors and Finding a Good Size

Oftentimes we encounter builds that call for 1µF box film caps. And while they're not hard to find, finding a small enough 1µF film cap can be a challenge. How many times have we tried placing a 1µF box film that encroaches far enough outside its footprint to interfere with the placement of...

    A Hive-Mind Quandary on J201 JFETs

Here's one for the hive-mind . . . . . Out of a batch of 100 genuine NOS Fairchild TO-92 J201 JFETs, I found three that test as dual-diodes on my Peak Atlas DCA-75. But when I try them in a circuit, they perform just the others that test as actual JFETs. The DCA-75 was fully charged, so PS is...

Understanding a Specific Circuit (Analysis Assistance Please)

I'm looking for assistance in analyzing this circuit. What I can make of it is that it seems to pass signal when certain conditions of the lower section turns the JFET (Q102 2N5457) off. I'm guessing the lower section captures the signal's attack transient and turns the JFET on or off. A...

Ode to Gilbert Shelton - Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers

There once was a comic book series created by Gilbert Shelton called the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. Three hippy stoners who communed together with a cat in a roach infested apartment. Their antics are hilarious. Gilbert Shelton even did a spin-off series featuring just Fat Freddy's Cat...

Havin' Some Friendly Fire Fun With a Favorite Sponge

Diggin' the vibe I'm having with "Grunge Bob", I took a dip into the Friendly Fire Fuzz circuit with another short run featuring our favorite deep-sea sponge fellow. But I encountered a snag with just the Friendly Fire Fuzz circuit. It's a below unity gain fuzz build. @Ginsly was kind enough to...
