Alternative Component for 1N4748A in Clandestine Preamp

Hi all! I'm having a hard time sourcing the 1N4748A from all my typical parts suppliers (Stompbox Parts, Smallbear, Amplified Parts, etc.). Has anyone completed this build with a different Zenner diode in place of the 1N4748A? I'm new to this so I'm not entirely sure what function this component has in the circuit so any education in that regard would be much appreciated as well.

Tayda has them.

Thanks for that recommendation. I've ordered from Tayda twice and both times my order never arrived and I never received a refund so I'm a little wary of using them as a supplier again. However, I was able to find these at Amplified Parts after doing some creative searching so, in the end, problem solved.

I'm in North Carolina. I may give them a shot again. It was probably not a Tayda issue but, rather, a shipping issue.

This is a job for Fig Labs! 🦸‍♂️

What part of NC? I’m at Lake Norman.

I have four I can mail you…or throw out the window as I drive by…LOL

Are those ESD-safe organizers?

Multiple Choice response:

A) If by ESD you mean The Episcopal School of Drama, then no.

B) Hang on, I’ll ask one.

C) Only if you discharge before touching them.

D) It depends on where you live.

E) Yes. The organizer would be unharmed by any static discharge.

Edit: Seriously though…I need some small esd pouches..I’ve yet to have any trouble but it’s best practice.

Another quick question… I’m noticing that the build documentation calls for a 3362P type trimpot which, in all my searches with suppliers, turns up a standard 3 pin trimpot. But there are five holes in the board where this trimpot is supposed to live. Am I missing something?

The extra pads are there to fit different packages. You’ll notice the pads on the sides are shorted together.
Thanks again! I’m still a total novice despite having built a ton of pedals from PCBs. I’m trying to move beyond the “paint by numbers” approach to populating PCBs but it’s still pretty slow going. Thanks again!
