Amp choice

I’m looking at amps (will go and play before I buy) and wondering if any of you fine folks have experience with Marshall’s DSL20 combo or Orange’s Rocker 15 Terror? Things you liked, things you didn’t like? Annoyances? (About the amps!!)

Likes and dislikes always seem to be a personal preference. But one thing I keep coming across is that a lot of Orange amps don’t sound that good with TS types of ODs to me and I’m not the only one that feels this way. Doesn’t mean the amp itself doesn’t sound good. Just not my cup of tea for my preferred set up. Maybe when you are trying out amps. Try them with a few of your favorite pedals to see if they get along.

That’s a really good idea. Thanks.

For me orange and Marshall have their own distinct sounds. Once you play them you'll know straight away which you prefer. If it were me id also recommend looking at the dsl40cr. It comes with a much better speaker and if you're going to use the amp at home levels as well as with a band the 40 watt definitely performs better at low volume than the 20. If you do look at the dsl40 it needs to be the CR model from 2018 or newer, Marshall updated it with a master volume and it's a lot more usable at low volume because of it.

Thanks,guys.

I rented an OR15 earlier this year and loved it. I had a Marshall tube combo in university that I also loved. Cannot remember now what the hell model it was.

I also have a homemade 1x10 cab with a 8ohm 30w greenback in it, so I’m not totally stuck as long as what I buy has an ext speaker jack … or as long as I don’t mind doing some day surgery on whatever I buy.

As for target wattage, I am not realistically going to play anywhere that would require more than about 20 watts of go go. Though the details on that DSL40CR are very interesting!

The 20 watt DSL is missing the best two modes IMO... I'd get the 40 or 100 so I could get those two modes.

Soooooo. I played a DSL20CR today. I was underwhelmed. There was an Origin 20 combo next to it, so for grins I plugged into it and actually had way more fun. But it isn’t quite there for me either. Alas. Next plan is to try a dsl40cr. Wasn’t an option today. Thanks again for the input

Which speaker is in the original dsl40 @Barry?
Curious too.

FWIW I couldn’t believe how bad the speaker was in the DSL20CR yesterday. I played the shop demo amp, so presumably it’s had enough playing to open up the speaker at least a bit. Sounded really, really flat and worse the more I turned it up, which seemed totally wrong to me.

The DSL40C was tight and bright when I first got it, it settled in some, but I finally swapped it for a Warehouse Invader 50, I bought the amp I think for $399.00 so even swapping the speaker it was a deal

The dsl40cr has a celestion V type. I've spent some time with a 40cr and the stock speaker is pretty good

It'll probably get even better with time, I had a Peavey Delta Blues 115 years ago, wasn't really bonding with it and then one day it just bloomed, opened up and sounded great!
