Any new concerts you're looking forward to (formerly 2023 concerts)

🤯 Just realized Conan is touring. Evidently their last show is Northwest Terror Fest, which has been a publicity shitshow. But if the bill is to be believed, they're on the same day as YOB, which, worth the trouble. 🤘
I'm bummed that I'm going to miss YOB on their swing through the Bay Area because I have another event that day. When they passed through ~1 year ago I was getting discharged from the hospital. The Dr said I could go, but my wife didn't agree  They are always a great show! On a similar genre note, I saw Clutch this past week, Elder is up in a few weeks and Acid King a few weeks after that.

I’m in that grey hair zone where I’m not cool enough to realize who’s cool to see these days and all the bands I’ve seen before or wanted to see are in a cash grab tour and I don’t make that kind of money.

Last good road act I saw was War on Drugs and I don’t think I had to sell a kidney to see them.

The Flower Kings tomorrow!!

Taking my 7 yr old along with for his first concert (along with some 3M safety headmuffs). With the pandemic and the lack of financial success, I’m stoked to get a chance to see them again.

I'm catching Frog Brigade in Asheville NC in a couple of weeks with Belew/Harrison/Cool Cool Cool opening for them playing Remain in Light. Seems like a great double bill even without Cool Cool Cool doing an opening set.

Might hit this up, edgefield is a good time though their beer suuucks. Had my wedding reception there. What was once the "poor farm" where people could go work for room and board like a hundred years ago. It's now a hotel/spa/venue/brewery/vineyard/tiny golf course with a few tiny bars dotted throughout.

When we were getting ready for my reception you could hear Michael Frante sound check and rehearse on the other side of the property.

Terrible.

I’ve never been impressed with any of the mcmenamins places. Kennedy school was cool for a minute, wish claypool would stop doing all his shows there.

Edit: welp it’s probably better than the roseland where he used to do them all but at least you felt like you were in a legit shit hole venue there

I actually live very close to the Kennedy School and while it's novel to have drinks in an old elementary school, I mostly avoid the place. Concerts at the Crystal Ballroom are my main source of interaction with those venues.

Another thing, I've played the Kennedy School and I'm shocked Claypool chooses that room. Not that I haven't played worse (RIP Tonic Lounge) but it IS a gymnasium. Seems like he could fill the Crystal easily but perhaps not.

Oh I’ve never seen claypool at the Kennedy school, just meant a mcmenamins place in general that was a cool idea for a minute. The crystal is cool I haven’t seen much there. Back in the 90’s i went to a few shows there. Reggae mainly and some iteration of the dead. Took my wife to an everclear show she wanted to see a couple years back. He seems to play the edgefield mostly this time he’s doing the grand lodge out in forest grove.

The heavens opened up and this tour was announced. I'm over the moon of course, and my 15yo is a huge Melvins fan, so it seemed perfect--but it's a 21 & over show. Why do they do that? Seriously contemplating driving 5.5 hours to Spokane to catch their next stop, which is all ages. Either way I'm gonna have to drive off to the Seattle show alone, with my kid standing in the front yard staring through the rear view mirror.

Spocain is tooooo farrrr, though I'm sure your kid would disagree. I've driven from pdx to the gorge amphitheater for shows a few times and I'm always kind of spent by the time I get there. No regrets but I'm too old and used up to party after a 5 hour drive these days.
